The Danish mystery aircraft:
It was designed and built by “Flyvertroppernes Vaerksteder”(The workshops of the Army flying Troops) and their construction serials were F.V.34-48 and 55-62 and called in Denmark O-maskine after O for overgang=advanced, the first I O’s were two-seaters and the next batch II O one-seaters. Danish Army serials were O-56 to 70 and O-71 to 78. Some of the two-seater armed with an observer MG were camouflaged and in service on Apr.9 1940 when the Germans attacked Denmark.
John I found this picture and maybe you are right!!
Thanks John Aeroclub, both on Nov.1st 1943 and October 1st 1944 romenian trainers (of unknown types) defected and landed in Turkey. Each with 2 persons onboard who were given asylum. (maybe they are even the persons on the picture) On both occations the aircraft were in good condition. So maybe one of them was “our” aircraft! So far no pictures of the aircraft were found!
the origin of the photo is Turkey and the persons could be wearing the uniform of THK or any company. There were 3 Proctors in Turkey, but the side window opens differently and the undercarriage does not look like a Proctor. Could it be a type from another Balkan country impressed during the 2WW?
any suggestions for this one?
hawk ace please show some reluctance and respect!!!!!!
actually flying 4,5 nm with a speed of 450 kts means 36 seconds so to try to analyse the situation and do something like controlling the aircraft and eject would almost be superhuman and maybe the aircraft did the turn. So keep your language down at bit please. All other turkish statements about the incident were made BEFORE a real investigation was done!!
Şafak = dawn in Turkish and is the radio callsign of the 173 Filo (squadron)
The Turkish Military High Command has now published their report on the RF-4 incident including a map based on the radar plot and investigations. The aircraft RF-4E seri_al 77-0314 was on a radar calibration flight and DID enter Syrian territorial waters for a short while only to be shot down 10 minutes later OUTSIDE the Syrian terr. waters. The wreck has apparently been found and should be salvaged tomorrow. Maybe one of our Turkish members could translate the report in full (their turkish is better than mine)
let us not forget that Syria is not a first time offender. On 21 Oct 1989 they shot down a Turkish civilian Islander. At the time they also played the whole tirade, but finally admitted their mistake and paid for a new aircraft (still flying) and compensation to the families of the crew. The israelis also do not have a nice record having shot down a civilian B.727.
and by the way I did recollect it, BUT as it was a casualty in a war zone I did not and think it is a good example in the current situation that is also why I have not mentioned the numerous military aircraft shot at or downed by the Russians!
how could I be feeling ashamed, being Danish, working as a civilian for an English company in a neutral country??
