MLS is a fantastically good system but if the Americans are prepared to give up their ability to control GPS transmittal and means for preventing jamming are found then GPS approaches will become the way ahead as they need little or no ground installation.

Thanks Wires2. I shall do a bit more research and find out why firstly I was given duff info and secondly why we don’t seem to be following our own policies!

For a low cost operator he’ll need a 737 type rating which would set him back £20-25 big ones. Because of the appalling state of the industry the low costs are forcing pilots to pay for their own ratings these days before then working these people into the ground. Other airlines will generally type rate you then bond you for typically 3 years and £20,000 but in his later 40’s he’s not really a prime candidate with so many young commercially experienced already redundant whippersnappers out there despite having 4 years commercial jet time.

Thanks for the web address by the way.

Originally the strange nose markings on BA aircraft was for ground observation to track accuracy while testing MLS (microwave landing system) approach installations. Whether they are still doing it or not I have no idea but I can find out from my BA 737 Captain brother.

I think that incident was an access panel that wasn’t closed and properly secured by engineering before departure. Should also have been picked up by flightcrew during the pre flight walkround.

To a pilot it stands for callsign but on this forum it seems to stand for colour scheme!

That second one is routing from Gelo to Rosario on the VOR Visual approach to R05 at Funchal. I thought it looked familiar, I was there again the day before yesterday!

Well said Kabir. Obviously the webmaster needs to retain the level of control he has now to protect the interests of Keymags but he should appoint sub-moderators to do the day to day work which currently doesn’t get done.

C’mon Comet/VLM, it’s time to get past this isn’t it. I keep trying to say that I have no problem with your viewpoint and that because someone complained that was enough reason for the avatar to go but this is starting to drag on a bit. I think it’s quite apparant we’re never going to be husband and wife material so why not put the daggers away and agree to disagree.

Comet/VLM – The reason I received the support I did was because very few people felt the same way about it as you. Now you are perfectly entitled to feel the way you do and God knows how many times I’ve tried to say I have no problem with that but this is your definition of ‘obscenities’ not everyone elses. While trying to keep within the context of this thread, I too have no problems with multiple user names for the reasons you give so long as they are not used to mislead.
