Keep the pictures coming WD.
Just a quickie for anyone who still thinks the 146 is the greatest thing since bread was cut –
There have been several incidents (more than 11 before 1995) where 146’s have suffered from uncommanded power loss on all 4 engines at the same time at a rate of 5% loss of engine speed per minute!
I think ITV’s product is far superior to the BBc’s. At least the ITV product has remembered to include at least a few irems about aviation! BBC only seem to be interested in duty free, customs and photographers!
I was mightily impressed that the A330 only burnt 1 extra tonne of fuel crossing the pond at FL280 as opposed to FL380.
It had happened at Virgin at least 3 times before I left them.
If I remember rightly –
ICAO class A is similar to FAA class A.
ICAO class B has no FAA equivalent.
ICAO class C doesn’t exist.
ICAO class D & E is similar to FAA class B.
ICAO has class F & G which I don’t think is designated under FAA.

Judging by the amount of tyre smoke, I’d say it was landing.
That’s what I originally thought until I then looked at the bogeys which appear not to have yet made ground contact. It also doesn’t look like it has full landing flap deployed.
That’s right, a glider with 5 APU’s!
Oh I see. I thought you had meant going to EMA for routine maintenance.
They’re not jet engines, they’re hair dryers!
Is that first photo taking off or landing?
Regrettable this is a fairly common occurrance.
I really don’t know for sure Mongu but I’d hazard a guess not.
Preston – I think it would be a very poor show to divert the flight for maintenance with pax on board. I should think it more likely that a re-route caused inadequate fuel reserves.
You normally only ever see Flybe 146’s out of Gatwick so I would think that is highly likely Martin.
Well all the cancellations meant I managed to go LGW-PMI-LGW on a normal routing at normal levels with very little delay. Lovely jubbly!
OKEYDOKEY HERE’S THE OTHER BIG NO NO WITH MINBUSES AND 737’S TRYING TO PUDDLE JUMP. A 757 can operate ETOPS due to having a much greater level of system redundancy (triplicated hydraulics, autopilots, etc) which the smaller craft don’t possess. These 737’s etc, will have to travel within 60 minutes of a suitable diversion if they are to be operated in a public transport role. They couldn’t make it accross with a full low cost config (with legal reserves) if they flew direct let alone with the 60 minute diversion requirement.
The only way they could do it is to do what Mongu says – pick up some of the cheap ($150,000 per month) 757’s that are available at the moment.
