I wouldn’t expect it to affect many airport workers at LHR as the staff car parks are outside the perimeter and staff are then bussed in.

I don’t mind it going now as it has had a good long run and is in todays world a completely antisocial aeroplane. It has been a fantastic achievement and I am pleased that is being withdrawn voluntarily rather than forced out after the crash.
Living proof that America is not king of everything!
Someone’s looted the engines!!!
This is Monster 500 territory!
No I haven’t, but I’d like to try one!
Our briefing packs which we get presented with at check in contain various weather charts. These primarily include maps showing wind direction and strength at different altitudes and more importantly a chart called the upper significant weather chart. This shows (amongst other things) the position of the jetstreams (channels of air moving at anything up to 300 mph). These jetstreams are largely a byproduct of the cells Preston mentioned earlier. Flight within the jetstreams (even the strongest ones) is fairly calm. Where the turbulence lies is the points where you enter or exit the jetstream. Probably the best analogy I can give you is a running tap. Water flowing out of the tap is fast moving but relatively structured and steady in its flow. The water in the sink is relatively settled but the point where these meet is a riotous turmoil. The air around us is just another fluid.
Put your tin hat on Gissur! There are a lot of eastern aircraft loving people on this forum. Incoming…

That just about sums it up!

AJK doesn’t ring any bells with me. Lyndon, do Airtours/MyTravel ever use ‘Tourjet’ any more?
Another dirty Air France aircraft!
The Moni is a conventional Group A aeroplane although I used it more as a motor glider as it has a 20:1 L/D engine off. With the engine on it would cruise at 120mph from it’s 22 hp 2 stroke burning 6 litres per hour! I kept it on a trailer in my drive so I didn’t even pay hangarage!

Just an interesting side comment – in JMC it was standard procedure not to use thrust reverse on the DC10 center engine unless you were at home base because if it got stuck in the deployed position it was too difficult to get to in order to sort it out!
