RE: Flightdeck security
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-12-02 AT 08:39 PM (GMT)]Kev – because they would not get a response to their request rather than a denial of entry. There are time delays built into the system to allow for periods where we may be so busy that we cannot take a request from the cabin crew for entry.
The more I learn about the new doors the more impressed I am with them BUT now I am the prisoner! This whole business has massively reduced the quality of our working existence.
RE: Flightdeck security
The current thinking is that you avoid the issue of flightdeck entry in the first place. If that system should fail I would like to be waiting on the other side of the door with a revolver.
There is a way for the cabin crew to get access if both pilots are incapacitated. If either pilot is concious the cabin crew can only gain entry after a request made by them is allowed by the flightcrew.
RE: New on the forums.
I always do 2 sectors (flights) a day, one there one back. Most of my work is to the Med during summer but at this time of year it’s mostly Canaries, Cyprus, ski flights (France, Switzerland and Austria), Lapland (just before Christmas), Red Sea (for scuba divers) or The Gambia (in west Africa). We even do that last one as a 2 sector day, 6 hours there, 1 hour turn around and 6 hours back.
Like all other workers in all professions we bitch about it but in reality once you know what you are doing it’s one of the easiest ways to make money there is (with the exception of the twice yearly simulator checks!). What do you do for a living?

Yes but not always so glamorous though. My alarm went off at 3.10am this morning so I could do a ski trip to Lyons. Neighbours probably weren’t too impressed when I accidently set off my motorbike alarm while getting it out the garage!

RE: Hooters Owner to buy N.C airline to create “Hooters Air”
Didn’t someone post this as part of another thread a couple of months back? Anyway I’m all for it!
RE: newbie
Welcome Kane, great to have you on board. Your posting is a great way for us to get to know you. I presume from your post you live in the UK, which part? Regrettably I don’t know how busy your BA flight will be as I don’t know if BA have been trying to give incentives to encourage people to fly on what you would think should be a relatively quiet day. When I used to wotk for Virgin we were always surprised at just how busy their New Years Day flights were.
RE: Something for Sunday
At first I thought the Swiss aircraft was an A330 but it looked far too dumpy! Then I realised it was an MD!
RE: Air Marshalls on U.K Flights
With the new doors in the event of single pilot incapacitation the remaining pilot would notify the cabin crew and grant them cockpit access. In the event of dual pilot incapacitation there is a procedure that allows the cabin crew access to the flightdeck but I shouldn’t really divulge too much in that direction. All I can say is that if either pilot is concious in the flightdeck under the new system it is theoretically impossible for anyone (including cabin crew) to gain access without permission.
RE: OK, so what did Santa bring?
Not much 🙁
3 bottles of red wine, a small bottle of tawny port (my favourite) BUT 2 tickets to Duxford 🙂
