RE: Strange
A few notes to the above.
Ryanair only have 200 and 800 series 737’s.
The only bus easyJet are evaluating at present is the 319.
easyJet are planning to replace all current 300 series aircraft but their expansion plans are resulting in them being required for longer than originally thought.
The plan is to either operate all 737-700’s or a mix of 737-700’s and A319’s. The latter is completely feasible and can be achieved quite viably because of Airbus’ amazing finance packages.
RE: Quiz
Sorry Kabir but there is no specific V1 speed for any commercial aircraft.
RE: Near Miss!
There is/was a company at Stapleford called Metro Aviation (I think) who use Senecas to provide radio traffic reports for most of the London radio stations. They have a small group of reporters who play different ‘characters’ for different stations, e.g. Heart 106.2’s Jeff Stryker is ficticious and the real version was actually a 70’s/80’s porn star! Capital Radio use a Grumman Cougar (which is actually owned by and flown by people from CabAir) from Elstree. Clyde FM in Glasgow used to use a pal of mine who not only flew the light twin but did the reports as well! I don’t know of anyone using helicopters for traffic reporting in the UK but they are very popular in the US.
RE: MD11
Strangely enough I have spent today flying with the former Senior Training Captain from the BCal DC10 fleet and asked him about this. This is his response –
After the Falklands War there was a lot of difficulty gaining access around South America. BCal were the dominant UK operator in that region but the government wanted to be able to improve links with the region (due to the political situation) so thought it would be better to reallocate route licenses and send BA,the flag carrier(!) instead. So BCal started to operate more to the Middle East and BA to South America. This wasn’t the move that BCal wanted but they were forced by the government. When oil prices started to rise BCal started to struggle and looked at selling a 40% stake to SAS. Lord King managed to block this move which left BCal desperate, until BA (having weakened them to breaking point) bought them themselves and absorbed it into BA. At this time BA had British Airtours as its charter arm but they wanted to disassociate themselves from charter and were concerned about a new charter operation on the horizon named Airtours (now MyTravel) so they got rid of their charter operation. A while later they started up Caledonian Airways with their remaining charter rights which they quickly sold on to Inspirations. The rest we all know…

Don’t you think this looks like an existing member creating a new profile so he can slate someone. A330 crazy – I think you are a valuable contributor and see nothing wrong with asking questions.

RE: cougar airline adress
Hazarding a guess based on the name ‘fe’ are you a Flight Engineer looking for some 727 work?
RE: MD11
A330 crazy – I’m a little off topic but I can’t help posting in response to the graphics attached under your posts. British Caledonian and Caledonian Airways are nothing to do with one another, they just happen to both use the name Caledonian. British Caledonian was demolished by BA.
RE: Where to find accident reports?
If the descent was a request from the controller I doubt you will find anything. However if it was a TCAS descent you may be lucky.
RE: Near Miss!
Traffic reporting aircraft need to be twins in the London area in order to be allowed to penetrate the Heathrow zone.
RE: Quiz
Q10 – is defintitely an ATR.
Q2 – V1 speed is dependent on (amongst other things) which type of 747, aircraft weight, engines used, derate used, runway length, runway slope, temperature, aircraft system serviceability, type of brakes fitted, wind component, airfield elevation, regional pressure, etc, etc. Unfortunately there will be a range of answers from Vmcg upwards.
RE: Bad weather. PIC
No, I live near Heathrow but am frequently 6 miles over Oporto.
RE: Can someone tell me…?
That’s superb. How about this one.

RE: Pic Of The Day – Inflight!
Saab – I often remember to dull sonic booms of the Air France Concordes as they overflew the islands. By the way I am coming back to Guernsey for the first time since I left tomorrow morning for a couple of days to see my Aurigny pals.
RE: Bad weather. PIC
Whenever I am getting the weather for the Iberian peninsular it always amazes me the extremes of weather Madrid experiences from summer to winter compared to the rest of that land mass.
(Saab – Opporto always seems to be experiencing Guernsey type weather)
