Just curious…did you get the Captains name on your BA flights? My brother is now a BA 777 skipper and has just recently been in Orlando.
I’m in Jo’burg at the moment and as usual we had some fantastic St. Elmo’s while overflying the storms at the ITCZ (inter tropical convergance zone) near the equator.
Cliff Robertson, who owned a Spitfire, kept it here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada for over 25 years. It was flown by my freind Jerry Billings, who has more hours in Spits than any other person in the world. Cliff, holds the Worlds Record for the longest glider distance of 240 miles. You can see him on his website flying his Spit over Montreal. Tony
I’m a bit out of touch with gliding these days but I think you’ll find the world record is many times that distance and has been for ages.
Perhaps they got the idea from this incident…
Yes, Boeing types use high outlet pressure pumps to feed the engines directly from the center tanks before running dry and transferring towing tanks whereas Airbus types always feed from wing tanks.
Center fuel pumps supplying engines running down to empty is standard Boeing fuel system architecture on all their products. I would have thought that inerting would be one of theirmain priorities. Although the Airbus fuel delivery uses a different strategy I’m sure they will similarly be looking at inerting too.
Yes we have it but I believe it’s more of a policy by individual companies rather than a blanket requirement.
Difficult to say this without being accused of bias but…the requirement to carry around hundreds of kilos of unusable extra fuel in the center tanks at vast additional cost to the operator to reduce risk of explosion has only been applicable to products originating from Seattle!
but is it because they are pilots…or because they are Aussies? 😉
Rather than Live8, I thought it was bringing the VIPs for the protest march, whilst the great unwashed were expected to walk from London – Branson and Geldoff walking from London would have really made a point, but fat chance of that.
Andy
Why walk when you can burn 10 tonnes an hour in a 744 or a 346!!! 😮
So I think exmpa is saying c as well!
Yes a nm is longer than a sm. As well as monitoring actual fuel usage we also monitor predicted usage so you wouldn’t go so far as to get nearly there and then run out. You’d see problems arising way in advance and make your decision to splash and dash en-route early.
Did you chuck them in the Pacific and made the world a better place? :diablo:
😀 I’ve got cheeses in my fridge that are older than they are!
The Finnair 757’s have 227 seats. MTOW of 115T. Compared with the RR 757’s the PW ones have a higher MZFW and MLAW.
They may have the seat numbers on board but they won’t be able to sell them all and achieve the range. The RR powered ones I have flown had a MZFW of 83.5T and a choice of MLW of 90T or 95.25T depending on how you wanted to certify them. What are the figures for the P&W powered version? I don’t expect they would be any higher in reality.
No like the Airbus it’s all or nothing. On the A343 however the alternate extension will not drop the center gear as this could puncture the fuselage if landing with one main gear leg not extended (as in the G-VSKY scenario at LHR). The A346 does drop the center gear as it can cope with the partial main gear scenario.
