Thank you very much for the hospitality…I didn’t want to just assume. I’m really proud of these photos as they don’t just contain flying shots (although there is a stunning air to air of my dad in his spit) but some wonderful shots of the unsung heroes replacing engines, fitting tyres, refuelling, etc, etc. I can’t wait for the pic posting facility to get up and running again. I’ll be out of the UK until Wednesday but hopefully get to start posting then.
Bede BD5 for me please, especially the J version.
…There was also some GA activity at Larnaca airport. I don’t think Paphos airport had much (when I was there)…
I’ve been in and out of Paphos and Larnaca a lot up until spring last year. It looked like just a few private owners at Paphos (including a Rutan Defiant) however I think there may have been a flying club at Larnaca just to the southwest of the terminal (on the same side of the runway).
…Don’t know if they are the same team mentioned above, but didn’t a two glider formation use to perform to the David Lloyd-George’ theme music?
Unipart/Skyhawks duo were John Taylor and Mike Dentith (now Utterly Butterly I think?). They used to do a mirror with one inverted just a few feet above the other however with no inverted systems the VW would stop in the upper (inverted) aircraft. The Pink Floyd tune was very serene so it may have been the D L-G music. Perhaps someone else knows.
The aerobatic team I enjoyed more than any other were the Unipart/Skyhawks RF4 duo performing beautiful graceful aerobatics in time to ‘Shine on you crazy diamond’ by Pink Floyd.
Sorry Janie, but yes we’ve got g indication in our cockpit (A340).
The skill level hasn’t decreased, in fact quite the opposite. What has happened is that the skills required these days are different to those before because the equipment and systems have changed.

Can I claim the earliest take off in 2005…off blocks at 0002 on the first of Jan!
There was a Captain at Aurigny that would try to put you off while you were making your PA’s by putting a ‘mother-in-law style’ porn mag in front of you. Quite apt really as he was a right tit.

…and SkyCruiser too if he goes to the 777?

Could also have been a New Galloway departure off 05 for something heading south although at that time of day you’d be hoping for an early right turn after departure away from the SID.

So where did all that pax carrying capability get Cathay during the SARS crisis? In deep pooh that’s where. When only freight would fly on the route we didn’t have cargo 744’s operating while pax aircraft cost money sitting around or operating with no passengers on them. We could operate the A346 with much more freight than a conventional 744 and make a profit with no need to carry a single passenger.
