Never Mark. JMC was never a strong UK brand whereas Condor has a long established history in its own country. There’s a lot of scepticism about Condor going low cost at such a late stage from within the TC group. Morale is at an all time low in Germany with many threatened redundancies on the cards.

I agree fully. The best thing that has ever happened to Boeing is the arrival of Airbus!

Sounds like…Multiflight! They are an LBA 737BBJ operator and FBO.

Then how does it roll? The rudder looks big enough to compensate!

    A342 & A343 typically M.82, A346 & A346 typically M.83

Perhaps it’s time to look at this old chestnut from a different perspective. The original 747 cruied at M.85 yet flew in an era dominated by VC10’s, etc cruising at unything up to M.92. Those VC10 pilots must have been pretty peeved with the slow jumbos holding them up! Seriously though, as time has gone on air travel has got slower to the point where the average commercial aircraft (B737NG, A320, B767, A300, etc) tours the skies at a typical M.79. The problem is that the modern long haul aircraft including the A340 are significantly faster than the average.

My personal approach to the choice of cruise speed has also changed as of late. I the estimated time of arrival is before the schedule time I’d rather slow down (saves the company some fuel in this expensive time) and burn up some more duty time so that I hit my annual target in less overall duties! Going at warp speed is a mugs game!

Good. With the successful 777, the potentially great 7e7 and plans to develop a 737 replacement the future now looks better for Boeing. For too long the company has carried old designs and old technology so the sooner a modern set of showroom models are in the better.

Sorry Sandy, I took it as read that you appreciate what goes on to get from A to B (and probably prefer it if it goes via C, D and E!).

Actually I think DashQ does have a point there. EasyJet claim that they train their pilots to a much higher standard than demanded by the type rating purely to dispel any thought that low cost means low standards. Back in my 757 days (I’ve been waiting to say that!) I’ve even had passengers imply to me that my charter 757 must be easier to fly than a BA one!!!

A round of applause is always preferable to that age old quip from the cabin crew, “Did we land, or were we shot down”.

…or the cabin crew bringing a glass of water into the flightdeck saying ‘now you’ve planted it you’d better water it’!

Very true WD. The time we get interested in maths is when the pay cheque is wrong, when we reckon we’re going out of hours or when the bar bill needs splitting!

Roll spoilers only, no ailerons. At high angles of attack if you try to pick up the wing with roll control the upper wing’s roll spoiler can stall that wing leading to a spin in an unexpected direction!
