Yes, the Spanish didn’t like using Globe because it sounds very similar to a Spanish colloquialism for a condom. We had a poll amongst the pilots for suggested callsigns and then we voted for our favourite from the top 5. We chose Tommy however one of our management undemocratically forced the exceedingly arrogant Top Jet on us. I don’t know any line pilot that likes it.
Sorry to minorly hijack this thread but I’m in the middle of doing 3 flights out of NCL at the moment. I did the Dalaman today, doing the Tenerife tomorrow (Tuesday) and the late Rhodes on Wednesday. Any chance someone can get some photos as I’ve only got one more 757 flight (back down at Gatwick) before I leave the company?
Try posting this question at http://uras.gliderpilot.net as they are experts at this sort of thing.
I’ve got to agree with Skypilot, the Seneca is much more than 2 Warriors in close formation! Try getting your instructor to teach you losing a donk in a simulated early stage of the climb out and you’ll see what I mean.
I’ve flown into Alderney several times (in Trislanders) and it’s a lovely place…when the weathers good! Take a visit to the terminal and look for the departure lounge’s take on passenger entertainment. It consists of an area where there is communal knitting! The idea is that you do a few lines (of knitting) while waiting for your flight. The result of many passengers efforts are turned into blankets for those in need!
Cathay have a toilet in the 744 flightdeck…not many others do. It depends on how the airline order their interior.
Thought you might like this shot I took a couple of weeks ago on a straight in approach to the south easterly runway. We had just flown over Gozo and you can make out just about all of the main island.
Air Scotland 757 (well G-JMCG actually!) at GLA
BY are providing input to Boeing so that they can tailor it to the one class airlines.
Annoying though it is, it’s probably a late response to a glut of late bookings.
It was probably a case of a caution message appearing on EICAS. Each door has a microswitch which relays a signal up front telling us if it is closed or not. These switches fairly frequently pack up and failsafe to an unlocked condition. I would be very surprised if the door ever actually moved from the fully locked position, however the flight crew have to act according to the indication they receive.
4eg – I would imagine that the Independents reporter heard the Mach number it will cruise at and then calculated the mph based on the typical speed of sound at the surface! Of course at the upper levels the same mach number will be slower.
That reminds me…I took this in TFS in December.
Downwind right hand for Runway 32 at Yundum International yesterday afternoon.
The west end of the Sahara dropping into the Atlantic…that’s some beach!
Wasn’t there an attempted hijacking a couple of years ago where they tried to jump from the back of an A330(?) and died?
