Don’t forget that the new Long Stay car park is only 200 metres from the train station, so you can still park there for £6.00 per day.
Aer Lingus Regional
According to the Irish Times an announcement will be made next week that Aer Arann will cease operating scheduled services in its own name and their existing routes, including WAT-SEN, will be marketed as Aer Lingus Regional.
The paper also says that a DUB-SEN route is planned under this new arrangement.
Danube Wings will be basing an ATR72 at DLE this Spring and will initially operate charter flights. After a period they will commence scheduled services to “certain destinations” from DLE. More details will appear on their website shortly they say.
The FlyGLM GRQ-SEN project is still very much ‘work in progress’, so don’t despair yet.
Nothing new that I have heard of. All seems rather quiet but who knows what may be going on in the background.
Danube Wings
Slovak airline Danube Wings will begin a Dole (Burgundy) to Southend service this summer twice weekly, Monday & Friday, with ATR72s. The route will commence at the start of June running through until the end of August initially. Seats go on sale via their website on 24 Januray.
The biggest thing being “ignored” in that fanciful story is that the runway width at SEN precludes commercial operation of wide body aircraft. Before anyone asks the question “cannot the runway be widened?”, the answer is no because the runway strip width would also need to be widened and this is impossible.
New Scheduled Service
Jetisfaction have announced today that they will commence a daily FMO-SEN service using Saab 340 equipment wef 31 October 2011.
This coincides with the withdrawal of the FMO-STN service by Air Berlin at that time.
Fares start at 97.98 Euros return and are bookable on the Jetisfaction website now.
The plan has always been to build a similar sized Northwards extension to the new terminal with the result that the terminal/station/car parks complex will become symetrical in shape. It’s simply that the build up in pax traffic looks as if it will be more rapid than anticipated so the additional capacity will be needed by 2014.
A separate T2 would negate all the advantages that SEN will offer of very rapid transit from aircraft to station or car park.

The GRQ-SEN route project is still being planned with a start date of Spring 2012.
I would have thought that £6 per day or £35 per week was still pretty reasonable, being 50% of equivalent parking at STN. As far as I know the charges and change of parking arrangements do start on the 18th July.
Has the new taxiway they are constructing been layed yet?
Visit the PPRuNe forum Southend thread and post 774 has a link to the video of the Easyjet photo shoot last week. This includes aerial views of the new taxiway under construction.
Just to correct that assertion it’s JOIN who were proposing using F50 and
F100 equipment from Denim Air, although that is likely to change to ATR42/72 and F100.
viaTriskel’s ‘plans’ look like being with ATR42s and I don’t think they’re anywhere near specifying a supplier, although their chances of ever getting off the ground are as close to nil as you can get in my view. Just read through their website and see if you think their plans are credible.
You are correct Cloud 9, it is still a work in progress and Spring 2012 looks likely as the commencement date. I don’t think EZY on SEN-AMS would worry them much – after all, there is already plenty of ‘competition’ on AMS-London routes – and it is the specific GRQ catchment which will be targeted. If you have ever taken the train from Groningen to Schiphol you will know why a GRQ-SEN route might workwell.
Sorry, when I started this thread I couldn’t find the old one so assumed it had been deleted. Good idea to merge the two.
