Vietnam already have 2 Skytrucks so if the other ten is delivered than VPAF would have 12 in service. As for the Su-22, I think Vietnam will have between 80-100 when the additional ones arrived.

I heard Vietnam purchased some Su-30MK jets from Russia, I hope they get it upgraded with new systems to carry Indian Brahmos which would be a great boost for the VPAF.

    Vietnam airforce

So far everyone been talk about the VPAF’s role as a fighter force and how it should be, but what about the air force’s martime strike roles, I think Vietnam should purchase the naval-version of the LCA when its availble in the arms market. And the LCA doesn’t seem to be that cheap, it cost $20 million per-aircraft, thats only $5 million cheaper then the Sukhois Vietnam purchase in the mid-90s, but since no western fighter is cheaper the LCA would make a perfect choice.

I think the Vietnamese Air Force should be like this:

    50 Su-30MK= Russia
    70 MiG-29M2= Russia
    50 MiG-AT= Russia
    20 KTX-1= South Korea
    80 Mi-35= Russia
    15 IL-76= Russia
    200 Mi-8/17= Russia
    75 AN-24/26= Russia
    30 Ka-27/32= Russia
    30 Mi-26= Russia

U.S prestige was on the line at Khe Sanh but the North Vietnamese hit the Americans hard when they besiege the U.S troops there, and the Tet offensive of 1968 wasn’t a military victory for the NVA, it certainly was a pschological blow for the Americans.

Although the U.S say a complete withdrawal from Vietnam, its choppers often fly sorties to Saigon in the following years after the truce, if you ask me that is not a complete withdrawal when there are Americans aircraft flying in Vietnamese airspace and ships in Vietnamese waters.
Finally in 1975 as the NVA drive through the streets of Saigon people at the American embassy run like hell desperate out of Vietnam for one last time.

The United States attack Hanoi and Haiphong because they wanted to crack the morale of Hanoi’s leaders, but instead of giving in to the Americans, North Vietnamese leaders wanted to liberated the South even if it takes them 20years, which it did.
America think it could defeat North Vietnam by simply dropping bombs and spray agent orange, but the U.S don’t even realise that they are bleeding their own country into losing the war, all in all, it was a great effort by the United States but not enough to beat the Vietnamese who are ready to lose everything even their own lives for the nation.

The reason America wanted North Vietnam to sign the truce because it was humiliated by the NVA in the battlefield, and want to get out quick in order to avoid further humiliation.

what did Serbia have? None of those.

You seem to know alot about the Vietnamese Air Force, are you a VPAF enthusiast? and don’t worry I will stop put up new thread.

Well, you said Serbia have none but I thought Russia is Serbia’s oldest friend and ally which always provide help. And by the way, which part of Yugoslavia
    are you from?

If the Vietnamese Air Force ever face the U.S again it doesn’t matter what the success rate is, I doubt Vietnam would actually surrender. As you might know ‘alexz33’, Vietnam is the heaviest bombed country in the world because America dropped over 14,000,000 tons of explosives or eqivalent to 720 ‘Hirsoshima’ bombs on Vietnamese soil and killed millions of innocent people, North Vietnam did not surrender but instead they fight on and actually defeated the United States, a SUPERPOWER!
In Serbia its a different story, a few bombs was dropped on the battlefield and the white flag was raise.

VPAF using MiG-19/17/21 against much more advance F-4 Phantoms.
The U.S have 700 fighters and bombers against North Vietnam, while the VPAF have only 160 fighters.

The Serbs have a technological base airforce but in 1999 it can’t even put up a fight with NATO, what a shame!
Throughout the war only one U.S aircraft was shot down while the MiG-21 fleet was hiding, compare 1 aircraft to 2,000 shot down by the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam war. In comparison the North Vietnamese have more gutsy pilots despite the forces obsoleteness compare to the modern Serbs.

    Vietnamese air force 2010

    Hello everyone,
from my point of view the Vietnamese People’s Airforce should acquire more Su-27/30 and maybe some MiG-29M2.
These aircraft maybe expensive but I think Vietnam with a rapidly growing economy could easily afford it despite budgetary constraints. In 2003 for example, Vietnam purchased S-300PMU1 air-defence missiles from Russia plus a contract for ten BPS-500 missile boats to built in Vietnam, as for the Su-30 deal, I think its only a military rumour that been spread around for awhile, but I haven’t give hope yet because I am confident that by the end of this decade Vietnam will have a wide range of modern fighters to deter its enemies.
And I think Vietnam will also remain the largest airforce in SE-Asia, aside from purchases I say Vietnam will probably develope its own fighter aircraft because Vietnam is an ambitious nation with a bright future.

At the end of 2004 Vietnam will launch the VINASAT!!!
