If the crew is lost with the aircraft is it deemed a war grave?
If not or there’s no crew lost with it I say get them out and into a more suitable home.
I suppose we’ll have to wait for a wealthy philanthrapist to buy the pub and have it taken apart brick by brick to another more hospitable location.
I know there’s a lovely old pub in the Crich Tram Museum that was removed from somewhere up north and rebuilt there.
Case closed!
Talking of pubs, has anyone been to the White Hart at Brasted recently, the original bar that was frequented by many famous Biggin Hill pilots has now been totally ripped out. The pubs link with its heroic past lost forever.
My mum popped in there a few weeks after it had been wrecked. The manager there just looked blankly at her when she asked what had happened to all the memorabilia. I can see the little hamster in his head running as fast as it’s legs can to fire up his memory.
“World War what?”
Ah, the beauty and mystery of film making. As we all know, just because it says it’s Biggin Hill doesn’t necessarily mean it was shot at Biggin Hill. A few local newspapers have run stories regarding some scenes of The Da Vinci Code being filmed nearby in Croydon’s Fairfield Halls. So this would lead me to believe that some exteriors may have been filmed at the “Bump” but not all of them.
I’ve no idea what the Tomcat will be doing there. I do know that it was one of the pair that shot down one of the two Libyan MiG 23s a few years back.
and even more…
and more…
And some more…
Ironically if the Spitfire hadn’t have been invented there may have been no Concorde and the underground map may have been in German… Hmmmm.
Lets hope he employs some decent scriptwriters then.
and not too many animators. I don’t want to be watching “Catch the Pigeon”.
Wonderful pictures! Looks like you had lots of fun despite the dodgy weather! Great pics of Susy in flight! Mr. Langton and I had a great day back on that scorching Sunday in June. Shame we couldn’t make Sunday. Keep up the magnificent work!
Do anyone knows who owns it that will be cool in classic passenger fit, and the other half in WWII para fit.
James
We were chatting to the owner on Saturday night. We heard he’s going to paint it up in its historical USAAF D-Day livery.
I know this isn’t exactly what you are looking for but I have a few pics of the RAF reenactors at Biggin Hill.
Hub Zempke. He was a great leader!
