RE: Low flying…..
Cracking little plane, just sort of purrs along until he opens the loud lever then it howls a bit, but hey, getting paid to fly below 500 feet in close proximity to people / dwellings / structures!!!! the CAA’d have a field day out here.
shame its only once a year.
The piccies look a bit pixelated cos I had to reduce the size to post, however, glad they worked for you.
cheers

RE: My Short Pilot Career Thus Far
Soloed allready, way to go !
I remember my first solo…10.10.76 (blimey thats given my age away aint it ?) but that was in a Kirby Cadet MK111 at Old Sarum in wiltishire england, and not a powered jobbie. I’ve got around 60 hours so far but only able to book four cos most of my flying has been withguys who aint instructors so I cant legitimatley use the hours (and umpteen hundred on MS flight sims dont count either !).
I’m thinking of doing my PPL this year out here. cost me around CY£1800 as opposed to nearer 5K in the UK, then its a question of taking the two extra exams which they dont do out here and a further GFT and that should be me.
Untill I moved out here two years ago, I was actually building my own plane, A Clutton FRED (Flying Runabout Experimental Design) but sold it when I got this job. I think I’ve still got a 3 view of the plane if you are interested ?, I’ll hook it out and get my scanner working over the next few days.
whatever happens keep it up !. I stopped and regretted it it ever since.
I will get my PPL one day !
Cheers

RE: Aircraft / Bomb Tugs
Top banana !
Got a soft spot for the old Fergie meself as well, but the only Tractor I get to play with is the Ford 4000 down the yacht club for launching recovering powerboats.
I remember the old Fergie 135 that I used to drive around, you start it without the ignition key by simply using the oil dipstick in the ignition barrel…iether means the barrel was knackered or the dipstick had a funny profile !
There’s loads of old fordsons, fergies, david brown’ etc out here in Cyprus and there is also a thriving second hand market for them as well. You be surprised how many are in almost pristine condition and they are all used daily in the fruit plantation……leaving mud all over the road for my bike to get covered in !!!
Glad the advert may have helped and hope to see some piccies of the completed restoration when the old girl is finished. I have another wartime piccie of a bomb tug but my scanner aint working at the mo’. Soon as it is, I’ll try a scan and get it on the web for you.
Cheers

RE: The Next Forum Get-together
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-01-03 AT 05:23 PM (GMT)]Duxford is looking best for me cos when I’m back in the UK, I Have to rely on car hire to get around and cost a bleeding fortune !!!. However, I’ll keep checking out the options and am all in favour of more than one meet a year as it give greater flexibility to most of us in that missing one, we could probably get to the next.
Coventry with a flight in a Dak might worth looking at, its fairly central (navigation is not my strong point…I still think County durham is in Ireland !!!) and the chance of a load of us up in the Gooney bird could be memorable.
Or perhaps….ohhhh I dont know, I can think of loads but not being in the Uk aint much help is it really !.
Keep thinking
cheers
Gary
PS: I will get to one …honest.
RE: Aircraft / Bomb Tugs
No worries mate, go for it.

RE: Aircraft / Bomb Tugs
Alastair
Not Fergie’s but wondered if any use in respect of mudguard patterns etc which I would imagine where fairly similar in shape and size.
I’ll keep looking through my library but have to admit I dont remember seeing much on this topic.
Cheers

RE: Had any snow yet?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-01-03 AT 11:14 AM (GMT)]Whats snow ?
We hoped for a white Xmas but this is what we got instead (taken at around 6.15 in the morning)and about 20 degrees outside temp.
However, there was snow on the top of the Troodos mountain range which is only an hours drive from here. When it snows tho’ they normally get upto 15 feet snow drifts and the roads are often impassable even with a 4 x 4 and snow chains. The local police often close the roads upto the mountains.
Its crazy, you can go ski’ing in the morning, finish midday and back to the beach for water ski’ing or some snorkelling and theres only an hours drive between the two !
Cheers
