RE: One for Stringbag
I have seen a photo like this before – I think it was taken at Leuchars, either in 2001 or 2000.
Will have a look to see if I can find it.
Great pic

RE: A little something for everyone?
Another notable aircraft in this line-up is the Sea Fury – it is VR930 now of the RNHF based at Yeovilton. Also based there are three of the other aircraft in the picture – the HP.115 (of course) plus the Hawker P.1052 and Supermarine 510 VV106 are with the FAAM.

RE: N232J
It seems that wherever there’s a Sea Fury in my images, there’s always an Avenger somewhere in the background. 🙂
I’m sure I have a pic of the OFMC Fury somewhere with a certain Blue airframe in the shot, strange 🙂

I wasn’t at the show myself, I was given the print by a friend.
Here is one show where both I and a Sea Fury attended!
Note what’s in the background 🙂

Here’s a pic I have of N232J taken at North Weald’s Fighter Meet 89 or 90.

Yes VX653 will have a Centaurus fitted when its rebuild is complete.
It is rumoured that it will also have its arnament fitted too 🙂
The RNHF Fury’s engine is currently being rebuilt as we speak.
RE: Gate guards
In one of the books I have (RAF gate guards) the Comet was allocated to the RAF Museum in the late 1960’s before being loaned for display purposes at Lyneham in 1986.
Hope this helps

RE: What do we want in 2002
On the RNHF front I think the Firefly is now 99% complete and awaits ground runs then test flights. The Sea Hawk repair is done but still awaits reassembly.
Incidentially their Sea Fury’s Centaurus engine has begun its rebuild programme.
Hope this helps.

RE: Lightnings
In addition to the Shell logos mentioned they also have other advertising on the fuselages of the aircraft.
To mention two firstly there is the ‘NTPS’ text , advertising the California-based National Test Pilots School that Thunder City are involved with, and the second is a bit of self-promotion, their web-site address 🙂
Best wishes

RE: RN Historic Flight
Hello
Here’s some news on some of the RNHF fleet
The latest on the Firefly is that it is close to a test flight so will be back on the circuit for next year.
The Sea Hawk WV908 jet-pipe repair is complete but the aircraft is awaiting reassembly, which will be done after the Firefly project is completed.
Swordfish II LS326’s corrosion problems are still being rectified but it is hoped to be finished in time for 2002.
Sea Fury VR930’s Centaurus is being rebuilt after the aircraft suffered an engine failure in August 2001.
The third Stringbag, III NF389 is undergoing rebuild at BAE-Systems Brough.
Hope this helps
