How about this new HTV-3X? It might qualify as the most revolutionary design in fighters? I don’t know much about the aircraft, but the X-1 scramjet seems to be a revolutionary jump….

As I stated, I don’t know much about this program and its hard to find a credible source about it on the net, is this the “aurora” program we often hear about?

Stealth is only the tip of the icberg………Remember, the F-35 can carry all of it fuel internally and many of its weapons. Beside the advantages in Stealth let’s not forget the vast performance edge the F-35 would have over a fully loaded Gripen. Of course that doesn’t even compare the Radars, Avonics, Sensors, etc. etc. Sorry, the Gripen NG is nowhere near the F-35 Class in performance or capability!

read my edit… i should have been more clear as to what i meant about “giving a run for the money.”

I figured the only thing that seperates the F-35 is its stealth capabilities… thats a given, but for an interim fighter, for nations like Norway or even Canada, on the market, competitevely speaking, it gives the JSF a run for its money, (not as an actual fighter) seeing as though Canada or Norway wont see the JSF until 2018 anyways…

Recently on the forums all we are hearing about has been the F-22 and how it will completely revolutionise air combat, but then again people were probably saying that a number of years ago when guided missiles were introduced with the f-4 etc. Therefore, a question, in history, which has been the ground breaking fighter that was the most insanely ahead of it’s time???. IMHO, I think that the intro of the German jets like the Me-262 and the Volksstrum would take the prize, any thoughts??

Are you implying guided missiles didn’t revolutionize air combat? I sure hope not…
