    Thanks Guys,

    I wanted to be sure of the accuracy of the illustration of my next article in the French magazine “Fanatique de l’aviation”;

    I will be telling the story of a 23 squadron Mosquito that shot down a KG 76 JU88 in Toulouse, shorty before its landing, on 6 Jan. 1944.

    We managed to find the remains of the JU88 in the earth and we could interview the Mosquito Pilot (94 year old) shortly before he passed away, this was 4 years ago. This war event will be the subject of the article;

    So the question was : should we show the cartridges ejected by the Mosquito (on the drawing: see here under) ?

    and thanks to your answers, the answer is “yes”

    All best

    Thanks Mike,

    unfortunately, the cover was torn off, probably by the explosion of the bomb load of the A/C

    I need to answer this question

    Let’s line up the pints and come out in 15 months ! I guess the first clarification is ‘to what end?’ The conversation can go different ways if it is about trying to identify the nationality of an anonymous scrap of fuselage dragged from the deep, in comparison to trying to find a modern substitute for a known historical material.

    The answer : I am trying to help a young lady who is making a Doctoral Thesis on “the impact of the material evolution on aircraft performances between 1935 & 1945”. This is the reason why I am looking for information about aluminium composition, on English, German & French sides.

    Thanks for your contributions;

    Hi Jeff,
    glad to be in contact with you.
    I know fairly well the history of this Lancaster.
    By chance, do you have any pictures of your uncle or of his aircraft ?

    David, I forgot to thank you for your answer.

    It would seem that P285 is rather a P/N.

    Therefore, the identification of the aircraft remains a question mark.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys

    here is some news of the “Catalina” part found in Croatia.

    – First, is it actually a Catalina ? the blister shape does look like it, but not 100% Sure. I have added new pictures with details.

    – “P285” marking appears clearly, see picture: does this help ?

    – then, location place is in Croatia Kornati national park, in front of Garmenjak Island.

    Thanks for your support to identify this beautiful piece of scrap..

    Thanks a lot, Don.

    A remark : in the link you gave me, there is picture (“memento from France”) showing a montage with parts from this Lanc, montage that was given to an English man in Toulouse: I am the one who made this montage. Small world..
