Thanks for the photo’s and details, Andy. I visit the collection occasionally, and always take a look at the vehicles. One day, probably many years from now, I will be able to bring my currently derelict ’26 Model 9 Sunbeam to an event at Old Warden.

The wife impressed me this evening whilst watching this: “Even I know the story of Douglas Bader, he had a dog called Ni66er.”

I don’t think it flys very often, and has a modern engine. It might be possible to clone it?

That confirms it then, and it is recent. Fantastic, I hope it is recovered before it is damaged.

Thank you for posting the pictures, Tuck. You are perfectly entitled to take photographs of this aircraft where you did, and post them here. England is a free country after all, a status that the Spitfire has helped to protect. If the aircraft had been in a private location, and access had been allowed only on the basis that photography was not allowed, then that would have been a different matter.

Please excuse my ignorance, where were these photos taken?

Glenn Peck, who very kindly showed me around his facility near St Louis some years ago, records progress of many projects on his website:

The Liberty engined DH4 was being restored whilst I was there, and the workmanship was superb.

The tiny island of Spinalonga, at the eastern end of Crete is an interesting day trip if you are in the area. It is a derelict leper colony in Elounda bay, and a short boat trip from Agios Nickolias. There is a small museum showing images of sea planes that used the bay as a staging post (to India I believe) A quick search found this image, might be a good place for snorkelling.

Hello Freeone,
Not sure if the exact cutaways you need are here, but it is worth a look:

I have a Non-Luminous MKV made by S Smith & Son London. It has the gearbox and cable in place. I am not sure of the date of manufacture or what type it was fitted to.
