    [Humour ON]

Either Photoshopped, or that 1:1 model maker based in Cheng Du again?

    [Humour OFF]

Those neon yellow serial numbers are a pain in the ****. 8(

It looks like the brake chute was deployed..
    Did it overrun a runaway?

    Diecast

For diecast aircraft I like the Bristol Beaufighter, Boeing P-26 Peashooter, Douglas Dauntless and Hawker Typhoon from Hobby Masters.

I saw a beautiful Junkers JU-52 die cast once. Can’t remember the manufacturer.

Someday, I’m going to get this 1:18 scale F14 from JSI. 😀 oh, they’re plastic btw. Not diecast.

    EW light fighter.

How about an aircraft like the KAI T-50 or Hongdu L-15 but equipped with miniaturized AN/ALQ-99 EW system from the EA-18G growler.

    Active Aeroelastic Wing

They might be talking about an Active Aeroelastic Wing (AAW)

NASA did some work on it.

    Nice analysis

Nice analysis. Just a comment that early warning and air defence for Siberia might be covered by Russian Northern fleet which includes the carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

Northrop Grumman pulls out of Air Force tanker bid

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/08/AR2010030802463.html

Northrop Grumman has decided not to bid on a contract to build the next generation of refueling tankers for the Air Force, a move that leaves Boeing as the sole competitor for the roughly $40 billion Pentagon deal, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans.

Here’s the latest news guys. NG decided not to bid.

Shengyang or Chengdu aircraft License build

What’s the likelihood of Shengyang or Chengdu getting a license to build the MiG ? Would be cool to see it flying.

    You mean something like this

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/wsoul/intakes2.jpg

    I have the same impression.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/wsoul/Intake1.jpg

Yes, thats my impression. Based on that. I would speculate that the intake ducts curve upward and inwards. The intakes are lower than the engines and the ducts have to curve inwards to meet the toed in engines. They might pass above the weapon bays too.

    Compressor face

    Indeed, the Flanker looks larger.
Part of is because of the tall vertical fins and landing gear. But still.

From this photo we should be able to get more accurate dimensions.

    http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/5605/img9707i.jpg

I really doubt we will seen the blades … the plane is not exact lined.. but base d on the picture IMHO the duct goes down in a smoth way and covers the blade

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/wsoul/T50/t50.jpg

From the top view and comparing with the Flanker. I think the engines might be toed in towards the front and the thrust line is adjusted using thrust vectoring. This together with the duct being curved and RAM materials in the duct means that the compressor face is probably very shielded.

A little more info, J-Wings labeled this the F-15FX. Text suggested an aircraft based on the new Singaporean F-15s.

Its probably going to be the F-15 silent eagle. AESA radars, new avionics, HUD, more use of radar absorbent materials and shielding of the engine’s compressor face.

Personally, I would really like to see the Typhoon win the competition. Its already integrated with amraam. http://www.defencetalk.com/unique-amraam-firing-with-eurofighter-typhoon-17767/

It also needs a boom-receptacle unless Japan’s KC-767J can refuel aircraft with probes.

i’m going the phoon will replace the gr4 as a day2 with an engine mod to give better acceleration and drop the SC and an order of f-35a as day 1

It would be great if the Typhoon replaces the GR4. Then we can have Bombphoons flying again. 😀

    Two booms per Tanker

Is it possible to design two booms into a single tanker and would it be an advantage?

The Israelis fitted a pair of PW1120’s, which was a derivative of the F100 fitted to the F-15 and F-16. In the Phantom, they produced about 20,600 pounds of thrust each in full afterburner, which was just over 2,500-lbs. more thrust per engine than the J79-GE-17’s

Needless to say the turbofan-powered Super Phantom was a heck of a performer, and it’s a shame it was never introduced into service.

I read that the Super Phantom could supercruise and had performance like sustained turn rate that was as good as the F18 Hornet. McD refused to support the Super Phantom program for this reason.
