Steve glad i found it and u were reminded of happy days LoL, must have been amazing to be under that!!!! Closest thing like Ive had was when i was a kid at RAF Chivenor at camp when I hooked a target to the back of a hawk and the ground crew & the pilot thought it would be funny to scare the sh1* out of me, as soon as my hand moved from the clip the pilot gave it welly and sat me on my backside!!! Happy days LoL Bex

The Falklands doesnt compare to Trafalgar , North Cape or D Day………. Hmm I dont think the troops who faught and died there would agree. So does this also mean that something that has not had active service is not worth saving? Theres plenty of trainer aircraft out there or PR or transport or even fighters & bombers too that never fired a shot in anger. Or am I being perdantic or taking things too litteral again. Bex

Sadly, we seem to live in an era where the monumental events of the last 60-70 years are viewed as increasingly irrelevant for much of the population.

If the history is forgotten, so too will be the lessons learnt. That is the real tragedy.

Well said Propstrike, it certainly rings true for any heritage of this country, just look at the USA, theyve got Battlewagons & Carriers all over the place.

Ok so we have plenty of aviation heritage scattered around, but the “Happy Clappy Do Gooder Brigade” try and stop it, the CAA wont allow anyone to play with jets properly (I mean their so called “complex” jets) oh and I wont even mention insurance.

The Naval side of things well, they get well and truly stuffed. Heritage railways get restricted to 25mph. Now it seems to me like this country is scared of upsetting someone by remembering the past, and create so much red tape to try and stop things being done. Bex

Er in hindsight maybe i got a tad political and threw my toys, sorry folks Bex

Firstly I have very little knowledge on what is being discussed here, however Im very interested in the discussion. I believe wholeheartedly in aircraft restoration (Im restoring a Canberra)& recovery, however my view is that if someone has lost their life the wreckage should not be removed no matter how rare the aircraft is and should be protected by law….. BUT, with the archeaological skills and technology that are available today, surely it should be possible to glean the infomation needed to build parts of the aircraft without total recovery of the part? Now as Ive said Im no expert here and I look forward to hearing others views on my post, especially if I and others in my position can learn more as I consider my view here also to be a question I hope may be answered.
