Did you not try searching Google for WR977? Loads of results, always worth a try
Truly something to be proud of!
Crivens, don’t know how it managed to take off from Roundhay Park (which I can see from my lounge window), must’ve been bigger in those days!
YOU SEE, THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN BLOODY SPITFIRES –
Zing! 😀
Blimey, hadn’t realised they were still flying Horsa gliders after the war!
Good grief! How could so many of us have no idea this was due to fly?! What else is lurking around on the cusp of returning to flight?! It’s great to have some really positive news on the warbird scene after a year of bad news and horrible occurences.
Aye that bit makes hairs on back of my neck stand up, strange how it can have such an effect. The bit where the crippled Heinkel limps back over the French coast also strikes a chord with me, not sure why!
Got to love the theme kicking in as that Heinkel splashes down during the “Northern Raid” sequence.
The bit of Walton’s score that is left in works really well I think, it’s quite a contrast to the rest of the score, it gives a different ‘feel’ to the aerial combat scenes
It wasnt a verion of this that was left out – it was Waltons entire score! ‘Battle in the Air’ is the only part of the Walton score retained in all prints of the film. He wrote a lot of music for the film, the majority of which was never ued (although some copies of the film have his end title theme instead of the familar Goodwin one). I personally really like the Walton music and he must have been incredibly upset to have it rejected. Then again the Goodwin score is fabulous too!
Thanks for posting that, fascinating read. Are there any candidates for more substantial remains, outside the UK?
Aye, wondered if it may be a turret motor myself although not been able to find any pics of one as yet
I know the Yanks get very twitchy over F4’s and F14s seeing as they are still in use by…um..’other’ nations, but didn’t realise the F104 was still a ‘problem’. Surely not? If they wanna get tetchy about stuff, when can we rescind rights to let them use British territory under lend-lease 😀
Liking that Storch!
Just to be clear, all the images are taken by me so I don’t think there’s any issue with intellectual property?
So, it appears my approach should be as follows:
1) Contact Airshow organisers to ask for their permission to use photos taken whilst at their display.
2) Contact owners of privately owned display aircraft to seek permission to use a photo of their aircraft taken at an airshow/event.
or
3) Give the calendar away for free….but what if it is being used for advertising purposes? I.e. has a company logo/website address/contact details on it?
Thanks for all your replies, although I wish things were a lot simpler!!
