The Brooklands website has been updated –
http://www.brooklandsconcorde.com/
TobyV, please post some “before” pictures.
I’ve seen some on http://www.concordesst.com/ and the transformation is amazing. They’ve done an incredible job!
As requested:

Former Concorde Pilot Christopher Orlebar being interviewed

DG’s cockpit (right and the fatigue test nose (left)

DG’s wings (less the outer sections, leading edges, control surfaces and all access panels.

Aft fuselage being craned into position alongside the forward fuselage

Rather gutted cockpit photographed through missing DV window

Looking forward towards the cockpit, notice severed cabling below the floor, missing wall panels and mess of cabling hanging down from the ceiling
Thanks Chris, guess thats cleared that one up. Its amazing how many airfields have gone even since the getmapping plc aerial photos were taken around 1999/2000!

I think thats to draw people’s attention more 😀
Thats a shame, I’m not a special fan of this aircraft, but its indicative of a culture of thinking that is off the mark. The article states the motivation for getting rid of it was that it was out of keeping with the modern image they are trying to create.
Certainly from my point of view, much of my motivation for visiting the former east bloc is to see things like Trabant cars, Soviet airliners, eastern architecture, basically an entirely different environment, amtosphere and way of living, whats the interest if they get rid of everything that was theirs and become like everyone else  🙁
Touché 😀
I’ll back John up on this one, I havent got involved in this thread that much, but being involved in a restoration myself (albeit a more modest restoration to static display), I can understand the situation they are in. One of the problems is the longer these things drag on the more the price goes up due to general inflation and having to get further quotes for jobs as existing ones expire without sufficient funds being available to carry out the necessary work.
There seem to be a lot of people who’ll happily have a whinge and a moan, but fewer who’ll put their hand in their pocket and help out.
I’ve flown on 727s with both DAN Air and Sabre (quite possibly the very same 727s 😀 ). They werefairly old when DAN had them and positive archaic when Sabre had them 6 years ago. Remember it havign a lot of things that were faulty that day and a somewhat death-defying approach onto the non-ILS end of SZG’s runway from which we just managed to leave from the last turning 😮 You can land a 747 on that runway!
Also flown on Fokker 27s, they were great fun, lovely sounds and big oval windows.
Most recently I have flown on a 1944 de Havilland Dragon Rapide. That was alos great fun and I have a video of it on the net somewhere (or I did  ?!).
Yes, since that time Neil has worked very hard on the interior, both cabin and cockpit which are now mostways restored as close as possible to their original 1971 BEA configuration. He has also added a few cosmetic touches externally but of course given we’re not having any luck with getting the rebuild done at the present time, people perceive that nothing is happening.
The link to the post on the historic board describes our new fundraising initiatives including merchandising.
Work in progress photos of the interior restoration can be found here .
This is an aerial pic I took back in May:

I assume the apron area including the hangars and tower are under threat and that their removal would then allow two JCBs to build a housing estate on the rest of the land that isnt already covered in glasshouses?

Most of the perimeter track survives apart from the south/south west edge which has either been removed or absorbed into public highway. The majority of the main runway was broken up and removed for hardcore for the A27 extensions in the early 90s I believe and only the north half of the subsidiary runway and the east end of the main runway survive in amongst the glasshouses.
Hi RenFrew,
Yes Neil is still working at the AVP, I’m sure he’d be pleased with whatever footage you have.
The diecast models are made by Gemini Jets, I’m not sure of the exact scale (although I’d imagine its similar to their other products) but I have seen some test mouldings and the fuselage was about 3″ long.

Sorry to ressurect this old thread, to avoid double posting, I’d like to draw your attention (those interested 😀 ) to this thread on the historic board:

I tend to regard it as a historic plane and so I tend to post mainly on that board but arguably it fits into both categories!
Prices are in dollars as its a US based site. When you purchase the products by card the conversion is made at that point. You can check exchange rates on sites such as http://www.xe.com . Unfortunately they dont currently offer the facility to display prices in other currencies and the only UK company offering a similar service actually would end up costing more and doesnt have such a wide product range.
If you’re interested in a print, that is of course separate and UK based 😉
Does anyone know how often Google earth is updated?? tried looking at it last week but nothing at Dunsfold that i could see….pity is Top Gear is finished now untill the autumn which means no more views of glorious prop liners!!!
It isnt. The imagery (of the UK) at least varies in age from late 90s to last year or two depending on what commercial companies have donated to Google. Try local.live.com from M$, its higher res than GE and they have consistant high res coverage of the whole country, mostly provided by Getmapping plc but with some more recent additions. Another superb feature of local.live.com is 45 degree the bird’s eye views – images taken from helicopters over many built up or significant areas that are more up to date and give you the choice of what angle you view from.
Its something to do with filming for the new James Bond movie. Same reason why the resident 747 has been adapted to have a B-52 style ‘double engine pod’ on each of the inner pylons and something looking like a drop tank on each of the outer pylons.
For years Lockheed was proposing a twin…never got built though.
I was asking about that on another forum but no one seemed to know:

Got any more details on what happened to this?
