First, I truly wish you had not lost the one you loved and that the fact she died was in such miserable manner.
That said.
God does not go around giving persons misery. (I am not going to say that there could be some truly evil people God deals with directly but that is not the norm. I.e. one does not get punished for ones sins while alive on earth. Anyone that says one does is either a moron or lying.
I am going to make this as short as possible due to the fact that the items that affect one’s life are like a huge complex mathematical equation, i.e. the end result is massive and complex but when broken down is mostly a collection of simple arithmetic equations that are in series, not parallel.

This is not meant to be funny but only God really knows but just as hemophiliacs do not make themselves that way, their ancestors started that ball rolling downhill. Most probably something in her ancestry started the ball rolling that made he susceptible.
Does God intercede on behalf of some and not others, yes.
I can personally attest to that which makes no sense to me because I have not lived what anyone would call a “good” Christian life, yet the last surgeon who worked on me told me during my last visit that he told all his associates about me because there was no logical reason for him to be checking me out 100 per cent recovered as I should have been in physical therapy for months and have had high percent disability.
All but one of Jesus disciples died horrible deaths, and were told this before Jesus left.

I can give possible reasons that psychologist could understand but that is still an opinion based on a semi-educated guess.
Too many preachers, far, far, far too many, go around preaching that God (Jesus) is love blah, blah, blah totally ignoring the hundreds of passages in the New Testament that say life is a bitch, always has been and always will be.
But it does also say as one faith grows, the ability to deal with the reality of life grows. That does not mean life is a bed or roses but God may kill some of the weeds of life before they foul one’s garden.
Moggy I truly wish I could give you the answer you wish to hear but I cannot. I did not get to the point of faith I am at now decades ago, it was a process of listening and reading and praying. Some prayers coming from personal misery.
You may ridicule this if you prefer but I do pray for all those I associate with whether direct or indirect and all I can really do for you is to pray that eases your sadness.

Your rhetoric sounds more like some one who is frustrated that God does not prevent man from being the servant of his own stupidity.
In the Bible God tells the people with whom he had a covenant — here are the rules, follow them or there will be hell to pay.
That God was true to his word, when men thought they could change the rules without penalty and paid dearly for it, seems to upset you greatly.
