Boeing says Super Hornet fully compatible with IN ski jump carriers
Its must be music to the ears of the faithfuls.
Untill the STO facility was ready at Goa, every single manufacturer were claiming that they can successfully do a ski ramp take off. And now, when it is ready, no one is coming forth with their aircraft to show it off.
The first promo instance was that of E-2 able to operate from VKD.
Then came Rafale, F-18s.
Now that STO facility is operational (for quite a few years), rather than advertise ski ramp capablity through media, just demonstrate it making use of the excellent STO facility at Goa.
The French could have avoided a lot of media promo hardwork for Rafale, if they had just demonstrated Rafales ski ramp capability at STO during the recently concluded Indo-French exercises.
The benchmark could be the 5,500Kg payload capability the MiG-29K/KUB demonstrated from the decks of VKD during trials.

Nice short video of IL-78M-90A test flight, with shots and voice from control tower it have a nice feel.
Good report on that new small engine which was earlier tested.
From its looks, its an X-configured engine like that (not exact) of the the 12-cylinder 12N360, but with two cylinders in-line.

^ 12N360
AFAIK, 360hp M-14P (“R” for radial?), was to be succeeded by a more powerful 400hp M-14X which did not progress much. It was probably just a more powerful variant of the 9-cylinder M-14P radial engine without any change in configuration or a complete new design? I don’t know much details about it. Anyone knows better, please do share.
But I would like to speculate that maybe it was meant to be a X-configured engine?
Some specs from the report.

I’m starting to like this little fellow. Hope it succeed well. Though I don’t like it being a gasoline.
In Novosibirsk have created an all-aluminum aircraft engine

The world’s first all-aluminium aircraft engine created by designers of Novosibirsk state technical University (NSTU). Aluminium made even those parts which are subjected to the highest loads: crankshaft, cylinder liners, and flywheel. About it reported in a press release issued by the press service NGTU.
In curb aluminum engine will weigh at least 200 kg, while the weight of its predecessor, the engine M-14P, – not less than 250 kg. the power of the new engine increased by 10% – up to 400 horsepower, and fuel consumption decreased by about 15 %.
Aluminium has already been used in the aviation and automotive engines, but parts, operating under high load, still made of steel. Scientists of Novosibirsk state technical University managed to replace them with aluminum using a special technology of plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO), established within the Institute of inorganic chemistry SB RAS. The essence of technology, what aluminum parts exposed to the plasma discharges, with the result that the surface formed a thin layer of aluminium oxide known as corundum. Corundum has high hardness and melting point, which is why aluminum parts with corundum surface can replace steel in the engine.
The new engine will be installed to double the Yak-52, old engines which are either already worn out or are on the verge of production. Now in Russia operates several hundred aircraft Yak-52, they are used as a training aircraft in DOSAAF schools, as well as private and commercial aircraft.
Ground engine test successfully passed at the mochishche aerodrome near Novosibirsk on 19 January 2018, Now the creators are testing the stated life of the engine, which is 2,000 hours. After that, the engine will be installed on the Yak-52 and will start its flight tests.
It is expected that serial production engine will be twice cheaper than modern analogues.
Engine designs created by the graduates of NSTU company “ZK-Action.” The developer of the engine – Professor, Department of aircraft and helicopter manufacturing, faculty of aircraft Novosibirsk state technical University, Ilya Zverkov, the development team are graduate students, and undergraduates NSTU. The NSTU, along with the Institute of theoretical and applied mechanics SB RAS and the Institute of inorganic chemistry SB RAS provides scientific and technological support for the development. Funded the development of the engine mainly at the expense of Fund “Revival of Russian aviation”.
Initially I thought it was an all aluminium M-14P radial engine. But its not.
Compared to the M-14P
Weight – 200 Kg
Power – 400 hp (10%increase)
Fuel consumption – decreased by about 15 %
I wonder if this new engine will be considered for the Yak-152. They should promote it to the Chinese who can use it on their Yak-152 variant which is currently using that 9-cyinderl M-14P radial engine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Kazan aviation plant. S. P. Gorbunov, where the head of state was organized by a demonstration flight of a new supersonic strategic bomber Tu-160M “Pyotr Deinekin,” the flight test program.
The flight was at an altitude of 300 meters and lasted about seven minutes. The pilots have done maneuvers that allow to check the stability and controllability of the aircraft in the air. The weather conditions were quite challenging: the airfield covered with snow charge.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the new Tu-160 in flight which he observed in Kazan, strengthen the nuclear triad of the Russian Federation. “This [development] important step in the development of high-tech sector and in strengthening the country’s defense, because it is one of the elements of our nuclear triad in the air,” he said in conversation with employees of the Kazan aviation plant named after Gorbunov.
The President called conducted work on creation of the plane “the big success of the plant”. The President invited a year and a half to fly on this plane, in response to what Putin has reminded that has already been on a plane predecessor.
There at the Kazan aviation plant in the presence of the President of Russia, the Ministry of defence and JSC “Tupolev” signed a contract for the supply of modernized strategic bombers Tu-160M2. Signatures under the document was signed by Deputy defense Minister Yuri Borisov and the head of the United aircraft Corporation Yuri Slusar, said TASS. The contract includes the supply of ten aircraft with a total cost of 160 billion rubles. According to the President, it will fully load the company until 2027.
During a meeting with employees of KAZ Putin said he did not doubt the coherence further work on Tu-160. He reiterated the need to develop civil aviation, including to think about the civilian version of the Tu-160. This aircraft will be in demand, although it requires a lot of work, he added.
“We need to make a civilian version,” – said Putin. “Tu-144 why was ready – the ticket had to match some average wage in the country. And now the situation is different. Now, big companies have emerged that could use this plane.” The President has noticed that it is faster to fly to new York than from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok.
The head of the United aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yuri Slyusar told Putin that the Corporation have a project of such a supersonic civilian airliner.
There is already talks of a civilian supersonic aircrafte based on the Tu-160.
Russia’s upgraded Tu-160 strategic bomber started flight trials last week — source

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Russia’s upgraded Tupolev Tu-160 (NATO reporting name: Blackjack) strategic missile-carrying bomber with Factory No. 0804 produced at the Kazan Aircraft Enterprise started flight trials last week, a source in the Russian defense sector told TASS on Wednesday.
“The 804th plane made using Soviet aircraft breakthroughs took to the skies for the first time last week and has been performing evaluation flights since then. The missile-carrying aircraft will be delivered to the Aerospace Force until the end of this year,” the source said.
Commenting on various media reports, the source said the new plane was not a modernized bomber prototype.
“The plane underwent only small-scale upgrade while its airframe and the engines have remained the same. Fully digitalized documentation on the new missile-carrying aircraft will be issued no sooner than the middle of this year and the work on building the Tu-160M is impossible without it,” the source noted.
TASS has not yet received an official confirmation of this information. As was reported earlier, a ceremony was held at the Kazan Aircraft Enterprise on November 16, 2017 to roll out the upgraded Tu-160 missile-carrying bomber. On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin overseeing the defense sector in the Russian government told Russia’s President Vladimir Putin that the debut flight of the upgraded strategic missile-carrying bomber was scheduled for February 2018.
Tu-160 bomber and its upgrade
The Tu-160 is the Soviet strategic missile carrier armed with cruise missiles that can carry nuclear warheads. Along with the Tu-95MS missile carrier, the Tu-160 makes part of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces along with the ground-based missile systems and submarines.
After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, several unfinished Tu-160 planes remained at the Kazan Aircraft Enterprise at various degrees of their readiness but the work on them was put on hold due to economic woes. As a result, the construction of one plane had been finished only by 2000 and the other by 2008.
It was reported in 2015 that Russia had made a decision to resume the production of Tu-160 bombers in their upgraded Tu-160M2 modification and reschedule the development of the new-generation bomber PAK DA (Perspective Airborne Complex of Long-Range Aviation) for a later term.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the serial production of Tu-160M2 bombers should begin in 2023. The Russian Aerospace Force intends to purchase no less than 50 such aircraft. Aerospace Force then-Commander-in-Chief Viktor Bondarev said in June 2017 that the Tu-160M2 might take to the skies for the first time already in late 2018.
The Tupolev Aircraft Company has launched work on developing heavily-upgraded Tu-160M bombers, which are scheduled to take to the skies in 2019. The upgrade program supervised by Russia’s Defense Ministry envisages fully replacing the bomber’s onboard avionics. This measure is expected to boost considerably the efficiency of using the aircraft system according to its designation.
Ru-Ukr conflict has taken a toll on project 15B destroyers. Huge delay in delivery of propulsion systems being reported.
When it comes to deals/supply from the Russia/CIS, first things to look for is if the payment was done.
India was so much accustomed to easy credits and relaxed payment schedule for the past decades and purchases that this habit haven’t changed much in the corridors w.r.t purchases from Russia.
W.r.t Ukraine, things could as well be issues related to other than just financial. In the case of shaft lines and propellers, if I remember correctly, its has to come from the Baltisky Zavod which have no relation to any Ukranian conflict as shaft/propellers are entirely in house products.
Btw, shaft lines are inserted after the powerplant installation. Do we know if the that has been installed?
Arihant supposedly having serious issues:
Really hard to believe how it ended up in the dock.
Arihant’s propulsion compartment was damaged after water entered it, according to details available with The Hindu. A naval source said water rushed in as a hatch on the rear side was left open by mistake while it was at harbour.

Mig, Gripen are out, according to this report.
So is Tejas mk2…
I guess if the Indian Navy could manage to have some synergies with the IAF, it would give Rafale an advantage…?
A naval Gripen doesn’t exist and the MiG-29K/KUB doesn’t as of now have a CAT launch aid.
But the entire stuff is not as simple as it sounds. Shall reply some other time.
