VKS Su-25s have returned to Hmeymim and were spotted over Aleppo recently:

    http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a57_1474735441

Anyway they are back there for a reason. Something big is coming.

Its not over Aleppo, likely Latakia.

This once more confirms one of the reasons behind the Russian “mission accomplishment” we saw early this year which coincided with the terror sponsors threat/statements regarding equipping the terrorists with manpads.

The Su-25s were completely withdrawn and only the Su-24s remained. Its a good coming back for the Su-25s, now with defensive suites & more precise striking potential, hope they increase the numbers to per-ceasefire level.

Some low level flights over sea/beach by Ka-52 & Mi-8 in Tartous

Low level flight of Mi-8 & Mi-24 over sea/beach in Latakia
    https://twitter.com/hamza_780/status/779690046186196992

Btw, whats with this low level flight of the Russian helos we see often in Syria, is it just to have some tease with the Syrian civilians or just to go under probable “partners” radar coverage?

And a question to the guys, how effective is the defensive suite on the Russian helos operating in Syria?

No Russian helos/gunships have been operating in the Aleppo area and none was there even during the last South and North/East Aleppo clashes. No gunsips have not been operating due to the threat of manpads in the area and was not there to support the ground units when the terrorists launched their 3-4 phase offensive to break the Syrian frontlines nor were they available when the battle for castello road was going on earlier. No visual proof I have seen to the contrary.

The only helo that came to news sadly was that of a Russian Mi-8 that got shot down (just after the start of the Jihadi’s south Aleppo offensive) near Idlib-Aleppo countryside that was returning to the reconciliation centre after their aid mission to Aleppo. The 5 crew members body was savagely (moderately) played round by the moderate terrorists. Syria (reportedly) finally secured the 5 crew members dead body from the moderate terrorists by exchanging over 160 moderate terrorists captured (pows).

Su-24M and cannon fire at night, a weird and unlikely combination.. that was a slow mover, IMHO..

Yes unlikely combination, but for the Jihadi fanboys.
Paralay with the earlier post of an A-10 video probably meant it could be the A-10…the slow moving, familiar sound, close air support aircraft for wiping out convoys.

And a good one. Have some faith in God. If there is anyone who didn’t laugh after watching this video, do raise your hands. 😀

    The Russians say –
    1) We didn’t do it
    2) the convoy caught fire by itself
    3) it was a legitimate target because there were rebel mortars mixed up with it.

In other words, Russia’s information management is confused & contradictory, just as with the airliner shot down over Ukraine, which was shot down either by a Ukrainian SAM, a Ukrainian Su-25, it can’t have been shot down by a Su-25 because that’s not physically possible, it was shot down by a Su-27, there weren’t any Su-27s close enough . . . . All from official Russian sources.

As the above proves, we can’t trust what any arm of the Russian state says because even if we want to believe them, we don’t know which story to choose & some of them are unbelievable. So we have to set their stories aside for the moment & look for other sources of information.

    1) That is Russia’s position
    2) Thats your making, I have not seen Russian side claiming such….. where did you get that from?
    3) That was legitimate target but Russia did not attack it and the reason why the convoys was able to unload its aid packages (whatever it was).

And FYI, which western propaganda make sure to hide, the Russia side had already said that they tracked the convoys with UAVs only on their way to the destination and once the cargo was delivered they stopped the UAV coverage.
So the UAV visual where we saw the terrorists moving their weapons alongside the aid convoy was when the aid convoy was moving to their aid destination which the terrorists used to piggy back their heavy arms transfer.

    ——

There are lots of lessons that Russia needs to badly learn (which they havn’t yet) and they need to change their ROE based on the ground realities and stockup the required inventory/systems needed to enforce that ROE.

The propagandist skipped the recent treacherous and utterly disgraceful attack on SAA units fighting the terrorits by the coailation airfroce. The coilation has been claiming that it was after gathering intelligence over the days that they carried out the strikes, but ground realities is there for everyone to see. As said by the coailation sources, the attack was coordinated, but the coordination was with the ISIS to capture the highlands near Deir-Ez-Zor airport so as to render it unsafe for aircrafts to bring in supplies. This has to be one of the best results ISIS had in recent time against the Syrian army @ Deir-Ez-Zor.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CsohB6HXEAAfoyZ.jpg:large

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CslalktWcAAfa_A.jpg:large

Without new ROE to cater to the ground realities – Turkey backed terrorists fighting in the North (and not limited to), Isreal backed terrorists fighting in the South (and not limited to), US backed terrorists fighting all over, there cannot be real progress. The terrorists supporters aim would be to distract the Russian/Syrian forces and drag them into a much wider conflict so that their buddies ars on the ground are saved and can progress much better. High time Russia realized that terrorists groups have got their supporting airforces to aid them whenever needed in their fight against the Syrian armed forces and this aspect needs to be taken into account and act accordingly.

Another stupid ceasefire crumbles to dust. There is no way the major combatants will resolve their differences politically.

At this point Russia should either go all in with the rebel stomping or stop band-aid half measures and leave the government to fend for itself. Unfortunately there is no way all outside backers (regime or rebel) will cut out at this point.

Allmost everything on the spot… few points from me

There was one analyst on the social media who rightly said over 6 months back (when the first of the ceasefire farce happened breaking the military momentum – completely – since the brilliant start to the campaign in Oct 2015) that Russia does not understands the situation in Syria correctly and that the war will only stop with the complete defeat of one side.

The analysis by experts that the reconcillation efforts & ceasefire from the Russian side was premature and could have waited for a bit more. Do mind that the armed terrorists and their supporters never wanted to talk and were confident of running over Damascus in couple of months time. But then Russia spoiled the party. Untill the Russian strikes started, none of the terrorists groups and their supporters were interested in talking to the Syrian govt But the very effective propaganda spun this as if Syrian side was not interested.

As you correctly pointed out, no half arsed campaign will do the job. I’m of the same opinion that if Russia can’t commit fully, just pack up and leave. Do not give false hope to the people. Atleast death comes faster than unending sufferings to the people who have already gone through too much.
The nature of the conflict, as earlier said, is such that unless the terrorists are completely destroyed (fighting capablity) this war will not end. The war in Syria was going to its climax (capturing Damascus) and to a “mission accomplished” with the balance of power shifting to the terrorists after a long 5 year war, but then came the “balancing force” in the form of Russia and tilted the scene completely. It felt like the job would be done in 12 months with the excellent momentum that was witnessed in the first half of the campaign before the ceasefire broke it.
So either commit with with equal assets as was prior to the ceasefire (preferably increased and wider spectrum considering the changed situation) to support the Syrian armed forces to make sure the terrorists are destroyed as soon as possible or just leave the fcking place and let the terrorists run over the country. Russia cannot act as a balancing force, but have to be the overwhelming force in this war. There cannot be a balancing force in this war as it will only prolong this war and sufferings of the people.

I do understand the Russian limitations, but at least try to arm the Syrian forces properly. I’m speechless when I see the so-called Russian fanboys bitch about the so-called “incompetent” Syrian army and talk about Syrian forces having an overdose of modern Russian weapons supplies. No amount of sane arguments can happen with these incompetent morons bitching about the Syrian armed forces who have been fighting a long 6 year war. These keyboard experts are the most ineligible idiots to judge the men in uniform fighting on the ground.
But what have we seen with Syrian forces (as per whats been in public) in terms of heavy weapons delivery by Russia so far are…..
    10-12+ x T-90, T-72
    1-2 x TOS-1A
4 x 2A65 Msta-B (in direct control by the Russian units)
    2 x Su-24M2
This is highly inadequate by any stretch and a lot more stuffs needs to be there so that Syrian forces can defend themselves from the air & land forces supporting the terrorists.

Few systems that Russia need to provide which will help the Syrian forces better and create a more favorable situation are
    > AD units – Pantsir or Tungushka, Buk-m2, S-300
    > Additional Su-24M2 and MiG-29M/M2 (where are the a/c that Syria contracted for?)
    > Counter battery radars (artillery & mortars) – strangely the first of the counter-mortar radar (if we take the complete lack of visual proof earlier) was made available only recently to monitor the ceasefire along Castello road. Still not available for Syrian army units fighting on the frontlines. I guess.
    > UAVs – it is a hopeless case as far as Russia is concerned due to non-prioritizing and neglecting the projects. Terrorists & their supporters are using much better systems. I had said in 2011 when the terrorists in Libya was taking over the Libyan army positions that Russia can help with armed UAVs and there is a need to restart/develop the Sukhoi’s Zond series UAV’s in compressed time frame. Five years later Russia is still there where it was back them. No real capability with armed/drones.

Additionally, Russia need to deploy more A-50 as 0-1 x A-50 wont be able to do much.
Additional S-300/400 sites with overall increased inventory need to be established in Damascus and Palmyra so that the southern and eastern part of Syria is covered much better with overlapping.
Russia need to engage the Chinese and make them join the party with gunships/armed drones etc at the earliest. For a start they can be based in Palmyra.

Awfully quiet in here now? Obviously the US bombing of the Syrian troops (and their behavior at UN afterwards) was a dick move but now an aid convoy was bombed. Chances are – that was either Russian or Syrian AF. US is now officially stating that Russia were behind it using two Su-24M’s.

Russians on the other hand claim that the convoy caught fire by itself… Sure, sure.

For a moment I thought it was some fckin murican fanboy for whom whatever the Russian side says was a lie while eager to swallow whatever the murican side vomited…

Pella shipyard is likely preparing to built navy’s new class(es) of support ships……the only problem is that Pella facility in Russia does not have the capability to built large ships, so they will be building it in Germany.

This is the case with these private yards, once they taste blood, they start leaching upon everything…. Pella looks going the same way as that of Severnya. Greed never has its ends. These arsoles have some real contacts inside the establishment to sway the deals (which need to be broken!). Else I simply don’t understand how these two yards gobble up all the orders. And on top of it they are planning to built these in Hamburg, Germany, as if the two Mistrals saga was not enough. Fking incompetent morons in the establishment. Just when I think Indian establishment is the worst, the Russian beat them hands down. And just when I feel Russian establishment is the worst, Indians beat them. No wonder both of them get along pretty well with all the mess that prop up often…

KUBINKA (Moscow region), September 8 — RIA Novosti. The Petersburg company “Pella” implements the technical specification of the Ministry of defense of Russia to create a modern support vessels for the Navy of the Russian Federation, told RIA Novosti on Thursday during an international military-technical forum “Army-2016”, the representative of the company Andrey Slimy.

It comes with a universal marine tanker and the ship kolektorna project 23120М.

Kolektorna court intended for the production of road equipment, performance of repair work on ships, the transportation of dry cargoes, towing of floating objects.

“Now comes the test design documentation. There is a reference from the defence Ministry,” said Slimy.

He noted that the tanker and kolektorna the ship is the engineering subsidiary of the company — “Pella, Sites”, located in Hamburg. There they will be built, as the Russian shipyard is not meant to build such large vessels.

“The court will be built in Russia on the basis of the German companies. Manual Pella, Sites” — our,” said Slimy.

He noted that the construction of ships for the Russian Navy could take place in about a year and a half, and their construction will take up to 18 months.

“From similar ships of the previous generation these are used in the construction of modern technologies and equipment. When they are created using innovative engineering solutions”, — said the representative of the shipyard.

OJSC “Pella” traditionally build for the Russian Navy tug boats of different tonnage — from December 2015 — small missile ships of the project 22800 “Karakurt” launchers RK “Caliber-NK”.

TR1 & others, anymore info on the project and spec would be helpful.

^ M-400 kind of pod which was displayed years ago would have done good for MiG-29K/KUB. I also feel the 29s can accommodate two further hardpoints for AA missiles under those intakes. Hope the guys explore that possibility so that when the underwing points are fully occupied an extra two missiles can be carried under the intakes.

SLBM launch that was carried out in August. It looks impressive. But a question to the experts. What are these hot debris falling down we see in the video. Once when the missile comes out of water and then the second time when its up in the air. Is it a normal thing? But I don’t seem to remember having seen such things in other SLBM launches around the world.

From their report on Musudan MRBM launch that was carried out in June prior to the above SLBM launch. In that the missile covered a distance of around 400Km and they said it was launched at a high angle and reached an altitude of over 1,400Km. So anyone know what would be the range achieved if its fired in normal trajectory?

Also, can the mods plz merge all these threads into one.

    Jang,

Can we assume you’ve lost a girlfriend to an Aussie….or that one has run over your cat or something?.

What ever makes you feel good in support of the English settlers down under…

Why would the DCNS presentation for Shortfin Barracuda to Australia in 2015 be a 2011 document pack on a completely different class of submarine optimised for completely different mission profiles?.

Hope you are pretending to be naive….whatever…

Its a common/standard practice when presenting your product to a client what standards/specs has been previously achieved so as to strengthen your case/product. That happens in almost every field and submarines are no exception. Are we to forget the so-called “combat proven” marketing stuff we so much hear about in case of air and land systems?

In this case, Scorpene class is the only non-nuclear submarine which represent the latest standards the French industry has achieved. There is no other specimen to back up the claims in support for the shortfin barracuda which is a non-nuclear submarine. I’m not saying every single stuffs… but yes, presenting Scorpene data for shortfin barracuda is not something out of this world theory.

You have got to be kidding me ! do you seriously believe what you have written here ? One of the most unbelievable statements I have ever read ! So by your thinking DCNS must have presented plans for the Agosta Class to India in their bid to win the contract to build the Scorpene Class ?

Can you confirm that French never gave anything of that sort in the case of Aussie deal?
Falklands war, Iraq war…how well was the integrity of the French systems?

In the case of Agostas, they are far below (not downplaying its capability or combat potential) what the Indian navy already had and in all likelihood the Indian 877s would have already made a databank of those subs.

Agosta class was the last from the French which still had that ww2 u-boat touch where as the Scorpene was a new generation sub that marked a complete departure for the French conventional submarines.
So the likely standards that DCNS would have presented to the Indian team would be those which they achieved for the Chilean navy (and even Malaysian navy) scorpenes. Any stuff regarding the older Agosta’s would be a good thing to have which can also come in the form of including it in the threat library and doesnt have to be presented in the hard copy form.

You obviously just have an issue with Australia, get over it.

Actually, its Australia which have issues with everyone else other than their “homelanders” and their minions. They are insecure about the Indonesians invading them, Chinese invading them, have been the prime snooper on behalf of their master on the Indian navy all these decades and their only adversary in the Indian ocean region was the Indian navy. Its only after Indian political elites started bending over for Aussi’s masters that the “hostility” and “adversary” stuffs went underground, but definitely not vanished from the decision process. The last major open snooping on the high seas (which got reported) was with the case with INS Delhi near Indian waters after its induction. They dropped off the snobouys around the destroyer for obvious reasons. Indian navy doesn’t go down under and drop sonobouys around aussie ships near aussie waters…

An enclosed floating dock the project 23380 “Zvezda”.
Apparently it will service project 955 SSBNs in the Far East; in the local climate enclosed docks are much easier to work in.

    http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/bmpd/38024980/3486488/3486488_original.jpg

That was indeed a good and sweet surprise.

114 Ñ… 14 Ñ… 485 meter is whats written. From the looks, 114m has to be the total height including the crane, 485 its length (for accommodating two subs) and the beam to be just 14m doesn’t look right. If I’m not wrong, the pressure hull dia of both 885 and 955 is 10m and so this floating dry dock having a beam of just 14m looks very tight..

^^ Austin, that has to be some sort of nonsense. The guys should have straight away gone to the US and asked for leasing couple of LA class subs which are there in good numbers unlike the 971 series which is already limited and the 885 which is an even more rare species.

Seriously wondering if these guys think with their bottom side up?

And what are they expecting, Russia to lease these for peanuts? And when Russia refuses to lease 885 due to various reasons, the trolls in media will be having a field day bitching the treacherous Russians.

Seriously man, you know what comes to my mind when I see this procurement/bargaining drama…..that short video/clip/skit based on the “normal” shopping habits of affluent Indians…. who have no shortage of money or budget or even any sort bargaining in the malls or for international brands, where as they bargain and squeeze out every single paisa/rupee they can from the local/street vendor selling their stuffs.
