Does the elta 2052 really have more than 1500? Do you have a credible source?
I thought the Elta would fit in the LCA — that makes it hard to believe it can have more than 1500 modules, unless those are very small. Or does the tiny LCA have a larger diameter than Gripen?
Its most probably Isreali marketing… displayed some set and mentioned some other.
An LCA sized radar to have something like 1500 t/r modules is unbelievable. Israel is still behind the US in t/r module capablity, isn’t it?
I think even the Indian A-50Phalcon have the older T/R module based radar and not in the class of the newer MESA like that of Aussies have.
Any correction or addition on the above will be welcomed.
This is what called ‘ Jealousy’ 😉
This is also what called ‘Smearing’
I am surprised this comment comes from a country Air Chief Marshal..
This kind of comment shall reserve for Tom,Dick,Harry journalist or layman. :diablo:
Its not the first time, off late chiefs of the top organisation is getting more media savvy and forget to use their head. Earlier Indian chiefs (of any organisation) used to be of very high standard not indulging in these kind of cheap talks.
IAF claims there is no Chinese R&D involved in J-20.
seems like he has not much work to do these days..:p
If I’m not mistaken part of the reason was Rafale’s carrier role and the need to provide a good forward field of view to the pilot in landing configuration. Hence the rather steep down angle on the nose.
Even if they had to do with better visiblity, they shud have compensated it with a higher seating position rather than making the nose smaller. In my view Rafale’s greatest drawback it have lest growth potential. The French should have taken care of the nose while designing.
See the difference of the MiG-29 and Rafale…..unfortunately Rafale will have to live with this drawback for rest of its life.
A more intriguing question I have been asking for years is ‘Why do all Russian aircraft have green wheel hubs’??
Ken
My understanding is that green & light blue are the most contrasting colors for visual inspection and it is probably the reason why they are used.
Just take a look at car assembly and service centres, they will have green flooring. Its because, any object (like screws, nuts etc) will be easy to find in that background and hence preferred by many automotive companies.
Its the same for the ships, many still use the green color for the same and it also helps them to get into notice any rust, craacks etc on the body. It has to be the same reason why wheel hubs are painted in such colors. No pilot would want to land without wheels or loose their wheel when taking of due to “invisible” damage to their wheel hubs.
You may want to see this before ruling Chinook out.
Where is the Photo of Mi-26 lifting off the Chinooks in Afghanistan?
Mi-26 will need no more than just that photo to wash off any competition from the Chinooks. 😀
oh got it, it was in the link itself…did you guys notice how the Boeing scaled down the size of the Mi-26 in their presentation to suit their needs?
cicniboy,
did you finally fly the Gripen?
Few of my observation from the Inaguration day of Aero India….
Though I missed the F-18 and F-16 flights as I went to “tank Up” for the rest of the day… the succeding flights were impressive.
The Rafale was in full glory and probably this was the best display of Rafale that I had seen. The very slow flight of the Rafale in front for the podium was damn good…And the landing was superb. For a moment I uttered WOW, what a short landing, that too without the dragchutes.
But Su-30MKI washed it off with its showoff, but I would suggest these guys shud use some tracers as it would enhance the displays. The MKI touched down and with dragchute it took more runway than the Rafales.
Gripen was impressive and what was more impressive was its shorter landing than the Rafale!
Then came the Eurofighter with its displays and the landing was……… yeas………LOOOOOOOOONG, even more than the MKI, for a moment i thought was it a Eurofighter Cargo 😀
Note:- the above observation may differ per individual. Since the landing strip to the left is inclined, a correct point where the fighters “touch-down” may vary little bit, but still i think the above observation on landing will hold.
But the most impressive & surprising (atleast for me) was the display was the LCAH. Probaly because, I did not expect much from it. As its sory of bulky and looks like a chubby gradma from its earlier avtaar. But this time it was impressive. The showoff started with an impressive nosedown take-off (almost vertical) with little high speed sideways display.
x2 Loke.
I had hopes on MiG-35, but my personal preference aside on this MMRCA debacle, the only one with a niche is the single engine, smaller Gripen. The others just complicate the IAF while providing too much capability overlap. Either cancel the whole damn thing, or go Gripen.
EDIT: I don’t see the Gripen being chosen though :/.
Chill out buddy….. if you are thinking about the absence of the MiG-35.
To remind, RAC-MiG did pull out of the German airshow few years back just to save that money for the development of MiG-29K for Indian Navy. Hope you all remebmber that.
From the reports that I’ve seen, the technical evaluation phase for MMRCA is over with only the result to come.
There are only two MiG-35 flying (961, 964) and If my assumption are correct, they are testing systems and the 961 (which had last time came for show) chose to put the the time testing their Zhuk-AE AESA rather than wasting the precious budget showing off at the AirShow. And thats a good part from the RAC-MiG as the technical evaluation phase is over.
At the same time, I also want to point out that the MMRCA is likely to be a political decision as we heard years ago that the “deal” was already made during the N-agreement with the US.
AMCA looks good, kind of Japanese fighter model….
Funding was not the only reason if so they could have held back projects like the Su 35BM and Su 34 and gone for PAK FA much earlier. The issue is with putting theoretical knowledge onto practice. Now Stealth is not Magic and everyone would catch up one day, but the U.S lead in leading edge technology is for everyone to see.
For example Russian stealth UAV/UCAVs will probably come decades after European/American ones (the U.S one already had its first flight).
Putting theory into practical /practice need money. Is it hard for you to understand it?
From Theory into practical terms means, from “Intelligence” to 2D,3D etc etc and that requires “solid” materials to build, test, improve, retest etc etc….hope you understand what I am trying to convey….all these require funding. Hard cash.
The Swan that turned into an ugly duckling, i guess that’s a first in fighters. Fugly16IN these days.
Actually that is more suitable for the MiG-29s….a swan that turned ugly with upgrades. 😡
IF-16 is no swan and I don’t find any particular ugliness in the new block 60 either. Jut got chubbier. Thats all. F-18 is probably the ugliest duckling, but one which does all the “dirty” work of US, every single time without failure!
The C-17A has problems too, just the Il-76 with the smaller engines is less effected. In general all named are transports with a secondary tactical capability in war-time only. The same reason, why the An-12s and C-130s survived till today and were not replaced in the tactical role. In SU times it was planned to replace the An-12s and Il-76s by An-70s. 😉
So the solution to the FOD is the turboprops and the ducted propfans like the NK-93!
But I agree with the IL-76, they have smaller dia engine which are also at good hight levels…. no wonder that they make good a/c for “unprepared” strips…
^ is there any picture of the upgraded MiG-29s? The link is not working.
How much did the new Fleet tanker from Italy cost the Indian Navy??
Isn’t South Korea the leader in commercial ship building and far cheaper than European shipyards?
