Only problem being, that a Boulton Paul Defiant isn’t an AIRplane, it’s an AEROplane.
Found this short vid, Vulcan display at Mildenhall Air Fete in 1982-ish, Don’t think it’s 575 must have been 1981 will keep looking…..

My photo log doesn’t show that I took any pictures of a Vulcan at Air Fete 81, but I did take a pic of XM575 at Air Fete 82. My notes show that it was on the ground so may have been in the static park rather than flying.
Any idea which Little Nellie this is? – As I am pretty sure it isn’t from the Ken Wallis stable.
(Sorry about the size of the pic, don’t know how to “shrink” it).
Photo’s from in 575’s Cockpit 🙂
Isn’t that Mach-meter a little optomistic? Would it have ever moved very far?
The Little Nellie shown in the pic is an impostor. It is actually G-APUD – the Bensen kit, modified by Ken Wallis as a prototype for his future designs.
It normally resides at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry and is on loan to the exhibition. It’s original “clothes” (bucket seat, plywood tail feathers etc.) have been carefully removed and the Little Nellie bodywork specially manufactured and applied – without an extra hole being drilled anywhere.
She will be returned to Manchester after the exhibition ends in February with her original parts refitted.
Thanks for that extra info Anon.
I realised that it wasn’t the original because of the lack of stickers (which scotavia mentioned), which I believe is the reason it didn’t appear in Die Another Day even though the Wing Commander had deposited it at Pinewood Studios at Eons request – why they couldn’t have “painted over” the stickers I don’t know as it would have been a great addition, much better than those shown.
Have visited Ken’s establishment a couple of times over the years and remember on my last visit seeing the mould for the fairings.
I agree with you 100% its a sad fact that the Country is lead by Morons and Bankers, the bonuses saga is quite outrageous, threatening to leave the Country if they are stopped, personally I would have called their bluff.
.
Is there a spelling mistake in there somewhere? 😉
Not the best in German.
Have they bought it?
The “google” translation of the second (relevant) part:
“Breaking news, the Second
Increase in Max Alpha Aviation Ltd!
We get a Spitfire !!!!!!
The Spitfire, one of the most legendary aircraft in the world, beautiful, high-perfomance, just a plane of the “Big Five”, which in the same breath as Messerschmitt Bf109, Focke Wulf Fw 190, P-51 Mustang and Chance Vought Corsair is called!
Now it has come true, the Supermarine Mk VIIIc Spifire G BKMI comes to Max Alpha Aviation Ltd. to Bremgarten. We are very proud of this achievement and look forward to the first low-pass over Bremgarten airfield !!!!! “
I understand that La Fert Alais (is that spelt right?) is probably one of the best for historics – SE of Paris if I remember correctly.
Can you through any light on the nasty rumour that the tank bank is to be off limits/closed for Legends?
Had to eat something on my visit to the American Air Show, so stopped in at what is now the Armoury. Greeted at the door by a fella asking how I was and if I knew what I wanted, on seeing the transformation for the first time, told him “confused and a full English”, sorry, we don’t do those anymore (they did bacon rolls and something else, not enough to feed a mouse), but the Workshop do have cooked breakfasts.
Exit the Armoury and walked to Joe’s – sorry, the Workshop. This time greeted by a girl who gave me a menu, explaining that the cooked breakfast was either a pancake with maple syrup, or an omelette, but no full English. Disappointed (and my stomach sometimes rejects pancakes, so wouldn’t dare try those) settled for the omelette and a (real) cup of tea (I later heard that they don’t do just cups of tea, one had to use the outside caterers, although that could be just a rumour). Omelette was very tasty, although I’ll have 2 next time, which will come to about the same price as the full English used to be.
On exiting the Workshop I noticed the girl talking to a few more people coming in, before they made their exit. Talking to the girl before I left, it transpired that they too were after a full English, at which she mentioned that she was going to see what could be done about reinstating it for Sunday. I wished her luck, and hope that on my next visit it has been re-instated.
Young drivers should have limitations on their licence, for the first year they should be forced to drive 600cc cars or disallowed to carry passengers.
I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t new drivers restricted for so long from carrying passengers now?

I remember visiting the Birmingham Science Museum (that was) many years ago to photograph their Hurricane and Spitfire. No problem with getting up close to these aircraft, but I had to sign a chitty declaring that I wouldn’t publish any photographs without their prior permission. A friend who visited a few weeks later with his son, was even allowed to sit his son in the pilots seat of one of them.

Penultimate UK Blackbird bidding farewell to the ‘Hall – 18th January 1990
As regards Mr Hoefling I’d rather forget his commentaries (the number of times people next to me complained of his statistics was phenomenal), I felt they were more for the rivet counters – I much preferred John Blake who made his commentaries interesting.
Was listening to the 5 o’clock news on Radio 2 earlier when the newsreader mentioned the death of Flip Madoc, even mentioning Last of the Mohicans it wasn’t until he mentioned Dad’s Army that I realised who he was talking about – whatever happened to BBC English?
On a side note – why was the Mohican haircut so called? From memory of the film and tv series, this haircut was worn by the Hurons. Chingachgook was the last of the Mohicans and his hair resembled that of a hippie, not a punk.
