Was listening to the 5 o’clock news on Radio 2 earlier when the newsreader mentioned the death of Flip Madoc, even mentioning Last of the Mohicans it wasn’t until he mentioned Dad’s Army that I realised who he was talking about – whatever happened to BBC English?
On a side note – why was the Mohican haircut so called? From memory of the film and tv series, this haircut was worn by the Hurons. Chingachgook was the last of the Mohicans and his hair resembled that of a hippie, not a punk.
With the name change, did they also drop the Confederate flag?
Also, is the Douglas Bader Wing still extant?
Sorry to detract a little more – but does anyone know why Robert Lindsay never mentions this programme when listing his tv series? Is he ashamed of it? I loved it, but couldn’t stand Citizen Smith which always gets a mention.
The last display I attended that included a Blackbird was in May 1987, but my last sighting of a Blackbird was 18 Jan 1990 when I took my nephew (not realising until much later that he was supposed to be at school) to watch the penultimate Blackbird leaving its Mildenhall base. It performed a few low passes before departing to the US, after which I took my nephew for his first visit to Duxford.

Not sure of the details, but that footage is on the OFMC’s dvd they were selling some years ago at Duxford, which I think does give details, unfortunately I’m not sure where my copy is.
Its my 30th Birthday in 2012!

Thanks for making me think about it – it’ll be my 60th 🙁 although it’s much better than the alternative 🙂
Do I take it that they have relaxed the “no flash” rule nowadays then?
Duxford Wednesday September 28th:
And finally something historic from Helitech: Probably the oldest (?) UK registered airworthy helicopter: G-ASAZ, Hiller UH-12E from 1960:
Sorry that I didn’t attend, as G-ASAZ also appeared as Pussy Galore’s personal transport in Goldfinger as N-ASAZ, I’ll get her photo one day (the Hillers that is, already have Pussy/Honor Blackmans).
One I recently scanned (from Baginton 30 June 1988):
Through my other interrest, I recently came across this ad, which I have a vague recollection of seeing at the cinema many years ago:

there seem to have been a number in the series although this is the only one I ever saw.
Great pictures and a great man. Been to Reymerston a couple of times myself and spoken with Ken many times, he is a treat to listen to. I’m lucky in that I also get to meet him at 007 events and always look forward to meeting up with him again. Pity my pictures never match up to yours though.
