I was fortunate to have visited the yard at Brownhills in the mid Seventies.
An internal room with the sawn off engines and props from a Lincoln, still complete with cowlings. A B17 cowl. Several Harvard fuselages. Lots of Meteor Nose/cockpit sections.
I kick myself for not taking more pics
It was the 80s when I visited, accompanying a friend who was thinking of buying the engines (he didn’t), not sure if I took any pictures at the time. Although I did take some of the bits lying amongst all the dirt alongside the canal, but they may have been a return visit later – have to check my albums.
He used to be a regular visitor to the record department at Walsall WH Smiths in the late 60s/early 70s – spotted him on a number of occasions.

I didn’t get stuck on Mouse Hill unlike the muppets I passed later,
I remember Mouse Hill being bad in winter, especially when I was a paper boy in Pelsall (1960s) – treacherous on two wheels. Haven’t tried it in winter conditions since, even on four wheels.

I donβt think there was an airforce that didnβt give us parts β except maybe the Argentinians of course!
Well they did supply the airframe π
I’m surprised that no-one has mentioned what must be the smallest warbird in existence – namely a particular WA-116 autogyro, G-ARZB also known as Little Nellie.
A number of posters have mentioned fitting “winter tyres” to their cars – have you checked the situation with your insurance companies? The reason I ask, is that Simon Mayo (Radio 2) this evening was talking to someone from the AA about these and it seems that some insurance companies treat them as a modification – beware!

The ads that I hate are those on the BBC that they insist on running even when a programme is running late, made even later by plugging some other programme that I’m probably not going to watch.
Vagisil and other ‘thrush’ remedies, and tampons, lovely at mealtimes!
I always thought that the best way to get rid of thrush was to get Solo, Kuryakin and the rest of U.N.C.L.E. to eliminate them π

I too prefer black on white, and as my eyes are not as good as they once were, I object to the minute fonts sometimes used. I got fed up of trying to read some passages of our esteemed mag with a magnifying glass that I resorted to having magnification being added to my reading glasses, and then they used an even smaller font – are they in league with Dolland & Aitchison?
