I have to ask someone…but I know that the PIs are now very dangerous adversaries even for the new “electric” jets like 16s and Mk2s….Use the PI adequate and you can beat everything in the sky..

The PI is the evidence of how far you can go with the “old” (is no more old, it’s realy a new aircraft now) good Phantom.
I talk with German ICE crews and they are a bit jealous about the creation of the PI.
They German ICEs have not the smokeles J79s the PIs have and not to mention the new electronics and updated cockpits…

Imagine what whould happend if the PI had taken newer engines (PW..?) ….but it’s sad and it’s when and if…

I’m happy that the PIs will be in air for many years more even with the good old J79s…

I don’t think that they spend much time for dog fight tactics…(i don’t know)

I think the major tactic will be: stay out of range with the M2000/F16 in front of you and fire the AMRAAMs to the incoming foes….

As far as I know from the EADS reports is the PI more dedicated for the AA-role and secondary AG…

    Hi Phantom,

I don’t know any details about the fightings against 2000/F-16s but I Know that the PI is a very welcome aircraft for the old Phantomathes 😎 😉

The aircraft are used as a AA platform against “instruders” from the east, they don’t need to engage in close dog fights against F-16s. The number of the HAF F-16 /M2000 is grown now and those are now the major aircraft to fight against the intruders…

The F-20 would be a cheapier solution for the countries that would nor afford the Falcon….but anyway…

yes same opinion,…but in the case of F-20, it would be a fine solution for a choise between the F-16 and Mirage F1…

I mean that those aircraft were not just loser in the mean that they were nothing worth, but very good aircraft for their time…but didn’t make it…

    Folks,
I think V is for “versus” VF = versus fighter, VA= versus attack….

    stormeagle,

that are catastrophy news if they are going to do such a “plan”….

I don’t want to talk about politics in this forum, but I think as far I can remember Hellas has taken the wrong decision in mutter of buying arms and aircraft….

I wish that it will be a day that some competent people will take charge over the land and do the right thing… 😡

For those that don’t know it, Greece’s HAF had a serious interest of buying the Tomcat instead of the Falcon….but politics chose the F-16CG

The original idea was to buy smaller numbers of F-14A+ and airborn radars and use them as long range interceptors with the AIM-54….

I think the F-104 is a very “never understand” aircraft.

I can only speak for the HAF, that had a very good service ratio (accident ratio) with the 104.
Some will say no big deal with the planty of sun in Greece….. That’s true for the summer months, but just try to fly low with bombs between the mountains of Pindos and elsewhere….
The HAF used the F-104 also as a fighter-bomber not only as a pure interceptor flying high and feel the heat of the sun!…

ALL of the pilots that flown with have a small tear on their eyes if you ask them about the F-104….

The G could hold two cormorans under the wings. The fuselage pylons were for sidewiders. The cormoran had no clearence to the ground for the fuselage pylons
