Thank you j_jza80. I have another model in the pipeline – much more mainstream but also much bigger! Question is … how many kits to make….

They do Chrome Lego – but it is expensive as hell!

Anyway – if anyone wants to know more about my SR71 kits, I’m on facebook as TopTableLego

Thanks guys! I knew about Lego’s general outlook, but I hadn’t seen it written before. This is why I haven’t approached Lego with the SR71. Although I feel I will still go to Lego Valhalla because the SR71 wasn’t weaponised (unlike the Sopwith Camel that Lego make – go figure), but at the very least, they would have to get in bed with Lockheed, and because of their other “products” that is never going to happen!

I am trying to keep below Lego’s radar a bit (no pun intended), so I go to great lengths to stress that this is not an official Lego Group product, rather that it is a sculpture of my own creation in the medium of lego bricks!

The next model is not military in any way, so I should be safe there! I have poured hundreds of hours into the new model and its looking really good! the designs are pretty much finished so now I have to build one and “play test” it to check that the instructions make sense and that it doesn’t fall apart too easily. Once that is done, comes the difficult decision of how many bits to order – an outlay of several hundred pounds! Its a bit more “Mainstream” so I am thinking of a slightly bigger run. It’s actually looking to have a lower brick count than I was expecting, but its still >500 bricks so it’ll be between £100 and £200. I wish I could show you guys some pics, but I am fearful others might beat me to market. Another guy has already started selling SR-71 lego kits! If I get a wriggle on, I should have them ready for Xmas. if you “like” me on facebook, you should get instant notification when I release it. https://facebook.com/toptablelego

Mr Batfastard – that is a very good idea – there are a number of adjustments I would like to make – and even more that others have suggested, so I might one day release a version 2 of the SR-71, but first I want to get the new kit into production and develop something for those on a tighter budget £20-£30. Any ideas/suggestions for a budget model would be very welcome – doesn’t have to be military or planes.

Couldn’t resist in reply to the above – I didn’t get a chance to photograph the real thing, so I had to make one to get the photo!
