I remember when the RNAF F-27 was doing the airshow circuit some years ago, an impressive display indeed.
A few old (1987) pictures of the famous RNAF F-27 display.

Some fresh news items have been added to the NAM website – one is another access alert for this coming weekend and the second is something that might affect aircraft modellers. As ever, details in here!
Anything to do with the present date?

Very nice picture of hangar 7 which apparently was shot in 1966, with 3 Transavia DC-6’s (PH-TRA, PH-TRB, PH-TRC) parked on the airside of hangar 7. I’ve seen those aircraft arrive at Schiphol end ’66 and they were at the very start of the company’s history. Transavia Holland’s first commercial flight was carried out November 16 1966.
Below a picture take from the control tower at Maastricht Airport in early 1968 of PH-TRB. The (then still unfinished) building of the Eurocontrol UAC is shown in the background.

I’ve worked at Schiphol from 1965 until 2002 and can confirm that it’s hangar 7 at Schiphol indeed. In later years it was the main hangar for general aviation. For several years I’ve also played badminton with “Airsport” in part of the hangar before we moved to a better suited accommodation on the northern part of the airport.
PH-DDZ in better days

PH-DDZ “Doornroosje” (Sleeping Beauty) will be sadly missed in her very nice Martin’s Air Charter livery. The livery was designed by well-known Dutch aviation artist Thijs Postma, who also painted the picture for me which is shown in my avatar.
I’ve been at Duxford last year on the Friday before the September show and there wasn’t happening much that day, probably because it was raining cats and dogs. However I wouldn’t have been very happy then if I’ve had to pay more than the usual entry fee. Most probably I would have skipped the visit altogether.

Viscount Stephen Piercey at Brooklands
I believe the Viscount at the Brooklands museum is named after him.

Much missed at Dx, certainly by me anyway, together with the beautifully finished T-33 that was lost.

A few other Saab Safir’s
In my initial training for air traffic controller I’ve made quite a number of flights in Saab 91D Safir aircraft of the Rijksluchtvaartschool Holland (Government Flying School). It was a very nice aircraft to fly, only retracting the landing gear was a bit hairraising at first. You had to push a lever forward to do so (which required quite a bit of strength), but inexperienced students then also had a tendency to push the control column forward too! There are still a few examples of those 91D’s in airworthy condition in the Netherlands. The Rijksluchtvaartschool altogether operated 8 Saab 91A Safir (1950-1960) and 22 Saab 91D Safir (1960-1982) aircraft for the initial training phase.
