I made it to Duxford yesterday. Got there at 07.30, the car park for non-ticket holders was full, so I had to park a mile away and walk. Someone from Nottingham left home at 03.30 to get there for 05.30.
When the Lancs arrived on time, the hairs on the back of my neck started moving. What a lovely site. Does anyone know what height they were restricted to, as they seemed quite high.
When I left after Sally B flew, I walked from the entrance for 22 mins and there were still people looking at 15.15, standing in fields, sitting in parked cars on verges watching a mile away.
Does anyone know how many were there? It was packed.
So all the bodies containing shrapnel have not been sent for repatriation, and all the parts of the fuselage containing shrapnel holes have been carved off or otherwise removed, so the type of missile cannot be identified.
Why else would the local AK47 shod militia prevent access other than to buy time to tamper with the evidence.

On the mobile phone contact theme, what would happen if a passenger became suspicious, sent a text, there was no signal over the sea, the text did not go, the plane then flew back over Malaysia, the phone was still turned on but the passenger was incapacitated due to hypoxia?
Would the text get transmitted when the signal was restored, or would it need the passenger to send the resend button, which they couldn’t because they were incapacitated?
Just worth knowing in case, God forbid, the same thing happens over the sea/ocean. Maybe send a text saying what happened, and put the phone carefully in a floaty cushion to become a message in a bottle.
I have no doubt that no messages were received from any of the passengers, which does seem to point to hypoxia and everyone falling asleep. I cannot think the plane was working normally when it flew back over Malaysia with all the passengers wondering why the map was not working, with not one of them trying to make phone contact.
I managed to get some very adult TV programs (by mistake when scanning through) on a 3″ battery TV in the mid 1990’s over Germany at 30,000+ ft, so a signal must be possible up there.
The Mk XV Seafire had an extra 90 gallon tank fitted central underneath in the Far East in 1945, and had a range of about 3h20m maximum. I think they cruised at around 220 mph, so that would give them a range of around 730 miles. Berlin is around 580 miles away, and Seafire VXs got through around 1 gallon per minute.
So by my calculations, 1200 mile round trip, 5 hours 30 mins, = 330 mins. Even with the 90 gallon extra tanks, they still only had 180 gallons, so they would be gliding home.
‘Disabling’ it…..is it still up there???
I was told, when learning to fly, that the idea was to keep the number of take-off and landings the same !

Its Mk XIX PM631, during its time with BBMF.
Its tied down for an engine run – presumably at some power looking at the tie downs.

A Mk XIX with a 4 bladed prop? Tie downs to 120kg of building blocks? 2050 HP? I am not convinced.
If it is a Mk IX, there are very few with P ??31 ever built, and most went to Russia.
The hollow concrete blocks it its tied down to look exactly the same as I built my garage out of ten years ago, and each weigh about 22kg.
The squadron AD marking is for a squadron (113, 251, or 60) which apparently flew bombers or recon planes.
Maybe it is awaiting burial at the end of the runway.

But they already have a model in the entrance next to the Hurricane. I presume you can get up close and personal to the full scale model, but I would prefer to see the real thing.
It is not every day you see a Spitfire fuselage being transported, so I was curious as to why it was being moved by road, and not flown.

Anyone else see a Ju 52 flying over Hendon (RAF museum fly past?) early this evening? I thought it was a Dakota from its sound and shape, until I put my glasses on and saw the third engine.
I am not aware of anything else that looks similar with 3 engines, so I think it must have been a Ju52.
