Just get rid of those coldwar relics called MBTs. The future is more mobile. Get some strikers instead. Who needs MBTs anyway. And you can cut down on costs when switching to a whheled vehicle.

The British have already cut their MBT strength by 70% since the end of the Cold War. British MBTs were not even designed for a western european environment. Scrapping the bulk of them is one thing but scrapping all of them would be sheer folly. You have to be prepared, in some small way at least, for anything and that includes a full scale armour and infantry engagement if thats is what is required. I don’t think MBTs should be scrapped, we need at least 4 or 5 regiments. You also have to understand that the RAF is also now using the C17 Globemaster. 4 now, more on the way up to about 11 aircraft which makes even a Challenger 2 air portable because the C17 can airlift one plus a lot of other stuff to go with it. In the 1960s they tried to say that manned fighters were obsolete, they are trying again now.

Its one thing cutting back, its another thing entirely scrapping an entire capability, its a stupid thing to do.

Would it be easy to simply bolt an active array onto a conventional radar set?

There is no denying the Army is cut to the bone and seeing as this is the Daily Telecrap is must be true down to the last word. Their ‘defence correspondents’ are all so professional and focused on their genre, there can be no disputing anything they say.

On the other hand I sense a modicum of bias in your post shooter, you wouldn’t happen to be ecstatic about this would you?:)

Best you keep away from anyone whose name begins with an ‘H’ – just in case the insanity rubs off… Then just go and have fun?

    WIBBLE!

Oh dear. I think it might be too late.

    😮 😀

Plz, no one jump on me for saying this but doesn’t the fwd end (canopy and nose) of the M4000 have a striking resemblence to the F-15? Or am I just seeing things?

Similar yes but the design is a good one. I don’t think anybody can say they copied the F15 canopy anymore than the F15 designers copied the canopy off……lets say an F86. Its just a good solution to a cockpit with excellent all round visibility.

Christ I wish the Brits and the French got on better. If they were willing to go past the Concorde and the Jaguar and really get stuck in with joint designs and close co-operation the RAF could have been flying jets like this. The RAF goes for heavier designs so and the M4000 would have been a better A2A aircraft than the Tornado F3. Fit a fully developed Foxhunter radar with full A2G capability. Still. never mind eh?

And regarding the Czechs – that sorry bunch – all that hubbub about a dozen jets!

Thats a bit arrogant isn’t it? To some countries 12 jets is a big deal, they don’t have the resources for much more, especially after decades of communist rule which still leaves a scar. Leave the Czechs alone they are alright.

So, about my question, does anybody heard something about an early AESA for the EF2000 ?

No mate if there is anything they are keeping it pretty quiet. Mind you the ECR90 is no flunk its tried and tested, based on the Blue Vixen I think which is a good set. RBE2 can do it all in one go though can’t it? I mean A2A whilst doing TFR and A2G targetting. I know they are having teething troubles but its nearly there. I know there is talk of an AESA for the Typhoon but I don’t know when it will come on line.

My brother’s wife couldn’t keep her legs together and now people are writing about her on bog walls. Didn’t see that train coming and it hit the family hard. No going back either. My brother now has to focus on his little boy and try to salvage what he put into that marriage which was a lot. She just took what she wanted and then did one:mad:
