sorry guys i’m confused (and perhaps lacking the stamina to unpick all of what has happened)!
has the choice been put on ice or has gripen thrown a spanner in the works?
or are things the same as before – rafale is the pick of the president and dassault are just trying to tie the contract up?
please endulge:o
i suppose par tof my excitement was behind the fact that all these designs are so boring because they buy into the LM version of LO
well i think it would look (and i’m only talking about how it looks not its capability now) more like a unique aircraft if it had a let orthodox nose on it. Perhaps the front end of the rafale rather than the M2000.
I do think the whole rear fuselage is too busy and looks like lots of different bits have been added on as an after thought.
But when you add the big hunchback of the tandem canopy the whole thing suddenly becomes this tiny aircraft with a fantastic flowing wing and curved front end that almost looks menacing in that dark grey!
Perhaps if there was a version or image of a tejas with LO intakes and treatment of the front end then it might actually be beautiful.
However, at the moment there is too much happening on a tiny frame for me.
i’m not convinced that the PAK-FA actually looked like the drawings that were around before its first flight. All of these designs (with the exception of the exciting one posted by deino) look similar (F22/ F23 with a different nose.
With the PAk FA its the little design details that make it more interesting to look at than the F22 even if it is broadly similar in concept.
Anyway its clear that there is a project, I’m confused however how many project you think there are going on? Is it just the J12 or also the Jxx or are these the same? and whats the J20?
right, but similar adaptations are a justification for the UK to maintain a proper Vanguard replacement i would say.
so as not to get up anyone’s nose here, i’ve tried to look afresh at the Tejas and I think the problem i’ve got with it is that the single seater just looks like a radio control Mirage 2000.
So i was looking in the images above and thinking it would actually look quite good if it has a brutish nose (rather than the 1980s fighter effort).
then i saw the 2 seater and realised that is much more like it, particularly in the dark grey scheme.
deino,
i know your images are a bit over the top but i don’t think i’ve been so excited by a new aircraft design since the MD/BAE failed jsf bid.
i mean if you compare that to the other images its truly different and frankly ties in with other projects i’ve seen on the net.
I’ll make the engine out of plasticene and loo roll if it gets that beast closer to production!:D
what is that? Its like a mix of YF23/Su-47/x36/Replica
far more interesting than the “JSF with canards” appearing elsewhere!
Swerve I know you are a specialist in this area, and i have to say i totally agree with your last statement!
brilliant thanks for all the info.
My hunch is that it won’t be a straight f22 copy, and that they will seek to make it the top predator in the region (which will be interesting!).
There are a lot of canard inclusive designs on the web and the chinese approach to stealth does seem different to LM (or Japan), and perhaps more like Boeing designs already mentioned.
Something like a cross between Dassaults Petit Duc (sorry about spelling) and the x36.
thanks for that. I understand that its highly likely that there is a programme, but as ever there are lots of fantastical images but little fact.
Is this fighter likely to be a large jet or JSF sized? Is it suppose to be full LO or like the PAKFA (mostly LO), and does the LO and secret aspect of its development preclude it from having the usual western avionics options?
I just wondered if there is any flesh on these bare bones?
my feeling (and gut feelings don’t cut the mustard here i know) is that Replica was an expression of the capability to be able to put into production advanced LO systems in a UK airframe).
So if Shinshin is close to flight then that is certainly a step beyond Replica. I do think that Replica was the tip of the iceberg though…
Shinshin would be useful in countering other similar projects in China even if it isn’t in the class of the F22. To my mind it looks like a Silent Eagle more than all out Stealth system, but having said that, I truly hope it gets flying because I feel that the more other countries produce advanced designs the more pressure there is on the UK to support their LO systems rather than focus on body armour for troops.:)
well it differs from Replica because its a public programme at least (but on the face of it Replica looks to have been more advanced both in terms of scope and time).
I would have thought that this is more about lining up the next step for japanese fighter production (because as you point out, they have a long history of domestic aircraft programmes).
interesting.
Surely though, if it lives up to its billing there are potentially hundreds of export opportunities for Tejas….
Indian arms exporters must need sales as much as everybody else no?
The whole point is that the system is not nearly mature enough to deliver, and is more important as a technology and manufacturing demonstration effort than world beating lighter fighter right?
its funny because when i read that the Kaveri was being looked at it went in one ear and out the other (or should that be eye)
there is logic to linking engines used in the Super Hornet and Typhoon because potentially they will be in the Japanese inventory, but the main thing is what is their motivation behind the project?
it will be linked to the public perception of requirements more now than ever before i would say….:(
