well is this the same principle as Replica was perported to be for? Namely -We can build our own stealth fighters so take our capability and demands seriously.
I noticed EJ200 wasn’t listed in that article, I wonder if that is an error…
can i ask,
are the any export opportunities for the Tejas then?
If its as nice a plane as you say then it should be a welcome addition to airforces on a budget trying to replace F5s for example…
Apologies if this has been covered in the history of this topic.
for what its worth I’ve always thought the Tejas looked like a M2000 copy and for me it doesn’t fit the “look right, fly right” rule.
I certainly can’t see it as a modern design. Perhaps more like a 1980’s effort.
The gripen has always been a pretty aircraft and the NG almost looks mean.
thats my thoughts.
HIMAT
i remember a NASA project in the early 80s called HIMAT which was exploring “unusual” configurations:
http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/gallery/photo/HiMAT/HTML/ECN-14273.html
this hasn’t been listed yet.
also all the stealthy artist renditions for US fighter in the late 80s/early90s were canard related (non-of which subsequently flew in the public eye).
So no-one can say the US hasn’t got a handle on canards….
I can see the arguement that they don’t like them though (although you could equally say LM don’t like them).
according to Ares, the S300 launchers are oildrums welded together on a tank transporter…
rear fuselage from the Replica for the fighter?
incidentally my post said “in this case”.
so whilst there was the SFO case over Saudi contracts, I am not aware of bribes being paid in the case of a deal in Oman.
But it seems that bleating about bribery is the fallback of a lot of posters on this site when “their” plane doesn’t win a contract.
there’s a lot of sulky posting about BAE bribing Middle Eastern clients.
No evidence in this case and just conspiracy theories.
Apparently if the Typhoon wins a contract it can only be due to corruption, as opposed to all the other reasons given.
silliness in my view
so even with all the technology and aircraft on offer this is still causing Dassault problems?
I’m shocked.
It is slightly farcical now, but i was suprised when a political leader said he was going to tell everyone which aircraft was the best and they would just have to swallow it.
why is it any more complex than Oman saying to the UK
“You are our friend and the Jaguars we have been operating for a long time and upgrading on your advice are very old now. We see you replaced them with Typhoon, and if its good enough for you then thats fine by us!”
My arabic doesn’t cover that but you get the idea.
Its not complicated is it. Countries have relationships and some countries trust each other and support each other. There isn’t a conspiracy behind every canard.
is there much other concrete policy from the conservatives on defence?
when i read the story about the conservatives proposing an ABM system in tandem with submarine launched ballistic missiles deterrent i wasn’t sure if they would shrink the submarines and warheads and ballance this with ABM systems.
I would suggest that the ship based system is the only one available for “cheap”….
so this will be 20 odd aircraft ? they won’t replace jaguar with Typhoon on a 1 for 1 basis will they?
I am very pessimistic about the current governments treatment of this, but if Brown says it will help secure british jobs, then perhaps these aren’t RAF allocated aircraft?
This is a stupid question, but is the Indian MRCA deal to replace Jaguar (amongst others) too?
That would be 2 Jaguar operators that had replaced Jaguar with Typhoon, which could be a factor in Typhoon’s favour in india (although a small one i admit).
i know this is going against the flow here, but i can’t keep track.
is there any more news regarding the al dahfra result?
the last i managed to understand was that it was trainee Typhoon pilots against experienced Rafale pilots.
There isn’t anything new that i have missed is there? Its so hard to trawl through the twoing and froing….
so apologies if this is already covered, but Liam Fox is saying that a Conservative government would keep a submarine launched nuclear deterrent and focus on anti ballistic missile shield for the UK.
IS this the right end of the stick?
i would have thought this will evolve after the election though. It seems a crazy fudge to me…
so i have skimmed through the whole angle of attack discussion (convenient because it doesn’t have much to do with getting to the bottom of the French claims).
Is it now the accepted belief that the RAF won’t comment on the french “trouncing” the Typhoon because thats “not cricket”?
I can’t see why we have to discuss the definition of angle of attack when the media start to come up with counter claims (or have they come up with counter claims? i’ve lost track…).
it seems like a good way to avoid talking about whether the Rafale pilots claim kills on their way in an out of an exercise (which is the way i’ve read this stuff), an as much as you poo poo it, i do think these stories are linked to export campaigns (brasil)
