i miss fonk. 😮
anyway i think this is the key- both Typhoon and Rafale aren’t as good as they should be by now.
I’ve heard he F15E comments before, but from squaddies in Helmand, although in that case i think they were in awe of the weight of bombs it was carrying.
It would make no sense to deploy typhoon prematurely. That would just support the view that the aircraft is no good in todays fight.
yeh thats the thing.
its hard to find anything on the net and we all seem to have the same information about reported “success”.
what constitutes success and is 23 out of 24 (for example) extraordinary i wonder?
i hoped there would be some information around by now.
its worked for this many years!
being a totally impartial observer here, I don’t understand how the Tejas MK1 (if that is the same as the prototypes? is it?) can be ground breaking. it looks unfinished, like its missing something.
I wouldn’t rule out the JF-17, it looks like a decent addition to their capabilty.
Sorry for sounding glib.
so i’m going to go out on a limb and rule out the MIG 35 (india are doing the whole special PAK-FA thing with Russia already).
we’ve dealt with boeing and the Super Hornet, so its the F16 (as operated in a different form by Pakistan) or a euro canard. I think gripen is already an LCA but i dont know if that counts against it?
We already know that Rafale and Typhoon are wonderful aircraft but if the Indian Air Force needs a counter to things like the J10 then i would plump for typhoon (they may not…)
sorry Tmor we posted at the same time. Thanks for your answers. i’m not trying to pick a fight 😉
I reckon we just say that time will tell eh?
Teer,
wonderful stuff!
Is it realistic to expect Russia/Indian to produce their JSF equivalent aircraft or will they just end up producing a beefed up Flanker together?
i’m still waiting for someone from the rafale camp to try to explain in non-aggressive terms why the ADA felt the need to come out in such an explicite way about what “happened” at Al Dahfra.
Its not a debate for people to start knocking contributors when they question you.
Like I said, rafale is a fantastic aircraft so whats going on? Telling me that typhoon fans have quoted dubious victories doesn’y answer my question.
on the subject of european companies – the gripen is promoted by BAE aswell as SAAB and isn’t EADS taking the lead on the Typhoon campaign in India?
thiazi,
i could be wrong but there were supporting quotes from both sides for the whole F15E incident but i understand it wasn’t strictly part of the exercise.
The general point that is being ignored on this forum by some, is that its unusual for an airforce to hold such a balls out press conference.
very odd indeed, particularly given how there is no official information from any other source available – which gives a sense of what is the norm i suppose.
thanks Sancho78
i reckon that if the UAE liked what they saw in the Al Dahfra exercise before xmas they will buy Rafale.
India might make the decision on the MRCA before they replace the M2000 might they not?
I can see that an upgrade to -5 would be a bit like LM saying the F16 block 52/60 (?) incorporates “JSF” technologies.
hampden98 – do you mean for British use or for the ANA to use?
on a not unrelated subject can somebody tell me when India last bought aircraft from france please?
I’ve often thought Rafale would do best in countries that were looking to replace Mirage 2000s.
Have to say i agree with this. The Hornet must be out of the running now. This C17 contract is well reported and really looks like its cushioning the blow for boeing.
thanks for those.
like i said there is a lot of variation on the web, but at least those are all consistent.
2 questions for the PAKFA expert community then:
1) when is first flight (is there an official date or is it still all smoke and mirrors)?
2) If a third manufacturer chose to design an “air dominance” fighter would it look the same as the american and russian designs? They have distinct similarilties, but i suppose only in so far as the F15 and SU27 could have been said to resemble each other.
