If one of the lads at Uni can get a micrometer and measure the cockpit skin thickness this might give a clue to the provenance of this shell, i.e whether it is early or later Comet or Nimrod

I know this is a *really* old thread, but I was wandering around the old girl today and remembered this question. A quick stab with a simple vernier yields a thickness of about 1.5mm – does this tell us anything?

And for anyone interested, here she is earlier today all lit up.

The original wind tunnel model. Acquired by us when Boulton Paul closed down.

Jon’s picture reminds me… we still need a port-side DV window.

Anyone happen to have one lurking in a corner somewhere?

No indoor stalls for us ‘jumblers, like in past years?

Yup, it looks like the entire ground floor of the old terminal will be available 🙂

I understand that FoLA will be putting on some historic talks/displays etc and we should have the usual aerojumble/memorabilia stuff too.

Drop an email to Rob Taylor for vendor details. rob(at)spekeaero.org

Jon-H is quite right… we’ve explored a great many avenues trying to establish the original identity of this cockpit section. So far, we’ve drawn a complete blank on its identity.

The future for this beast is currently unclear. Though I’m sure someone will post info here when we finally manage to actually do something with her.

I have the original painting jimcamdavidson@hotmail.com

    You lucky sod!

That, for me at least, is one of the most evocative pictures I’ve seen in years.

The current owners of JD, have confirmed verbally that all is clear for ownership of JD to be transferred to SAHG without any debt or other factors. We are waiting patiently for this to be confirmed in writing. As soon as we have that precious piece of paper… Anonny-Mike and crew can get their can-openers out and do what needs doing to get her moved to Speke.

All funds donated toward JD are still untouched and safe with Paypal. All costs incurred so far have been covered by SAHG.

Until we get that piece of paper… other than give an occasional and gentle prod – there’s not a lot we can do.

On the plus side – we’re all brilliant at twiddling thumbs now. :-/

As soon as there is any concrete news – I’ll post it here.

    Roy.

Article/letter and picture in the current edition of the Dan Air Staff Association newsletter – to see if we can stir up any interest!

    Thanks Graham.

Oh, you got that back! Cool. I thought they’d hang on to items of evidence longer than that.

    Quick Update

Just a quick update on news in today via Lakes Lightnings.

AMS have confirmed to Blackpool that G-BEJD is free to be moved with “no debt or other legal wranglings” and are now to confirm that in writing.

Once we have that, Anonny-Mike will I’m sure be eager to set to with his trusty whizzer and a rusty spoon to get her into bite-sized chunks for removal to Sunny Speke.

Will post any further news as I get it 🙂

A few more pics from today: The good pics will come from Pete Rotherham and will appear on our website when it goes live again next week.

I wish we could add aircraft like this to the collection every weekend 😀
