Funny thing… while waiting for a group of sea cadets coming to play with the J41 sim, we were standing on the apron watching the endless stream of easyjet 737’s going in and out of Liverpool. What struck me is that no matter how many times I see an aircraft take off or land – it’s like the first time, every time. It amazes me.

With a successful bid on an item, I’ve had the seller pull the item from auction because it wasn’t fetching enough. Hardly ethical. People who set a start price lower than what they are happy to expect are simply being foolish.

Ebay has been a tremendously useful tool for me. I’ve found so many parts I wouldn’t have dreamed I’d ever find thanks to Ebay. What saddens me though is that there are a growing number of people trying to make huge profits from the sale of old aircraft parts when I’m more concerned about getting missing parts back into the aircraft they came from. I’ve given heaps of stuff away for free over the years just to see it go back where it belongs. Enthusiast vs Profiteer I guess.

WV838, candidate for Liverpool? Good example of North west aviation heritage or indeed Royal Navy.

Ah, now that really would be nice!

Sadly, we’ve too many other things going on at the moment. If I had enough spare cash I’d take her myself.

We could always offer space for her if someone in the north-west takes her on.

I think you’re right… you can’t get away from it. As soon as you hear an engine overhead, you just have to look up.

Early last year, swmbo decided that we needed a weekend break and she booked us into a little cottage in bedgellert. Now while I love the area around bedgellert, I wasn’t too keen on this because I was busy playing with simulators, the jetstream and trying to stich two lumps of grumman yankee together to make one whole one.

Reluctantly though, I agreed to the trip and we set off for our long weekend break. We met up with the cottage owners to get the keys (they lived just the other side of a little waterfall from our rented cottage) and it turned out that the owner flies a sea king SAR from valley. swmbo’s eyes rolled as long conversations about helo’s began.

Being a yank, swmbo wanted to see a castle and so I took her up to caernarfon. She had a wander around the ruins, did a little shopping, and then I said I just wanted to pop around to caernarfon airport. What she didn’t know was that Bill Turnbull was waiting at the museum there for me and after a quick cuppa we spent the next hour or so wandering around Caernarfon museum’s sea hawk 🙂 swmbo was not impressed.

I just hope her next weekend jaunt is near somewhere like brooklands or duxford 😀

Dear All – just to let you know that the canopy was offered up against a Scimi frame at the weekend and has been confirmed as Scimitar – it has been passed on to help a cockpit section

Bravo! Always nice when a part finds a new home on an airframe.

Nothing, imho. Bidding early, as in a ‘real’ auction, just drives the price up, and no buyer wants that.

Given that the electronic auction has a finite life and a ‘real’ auction does not – it could be considered sneaky in that by bidding at the last second, you aren’t giving others a chance to bid more. Again, a buyer doesn’t want that !

As for size – herewith another pic with a credit card beside it (all I had on me for scale!)

I can’t quite make out the credit card numbers….

I thought it was interesting to read Mr. Jackson stating that the film was not going to be a 2006 remake of 1943 events “The world of 1943 is very much where this film is going to be set, not the political world of 2006” yet he is still undecided about what name to call the dog. What other reason is there for not using nigger apart from the political sensitivities of 2006?

A very good point. Time will tell.

Although he has a very hard act to follow, the film could be good – and true.

If nothing else, it should leave us with a few Lanc replica’s to drool over and might just inspire some new folks to join the aviation heritage movement.

Why would it need dismantling, it was outside only last week having its engines run for anti-det maintenance.

Normally, by the time an aircraft is gifted to a museum or other lucky group, it is long past being able to fly anywhere.

We’ve had several offers of aircraft which we have been unable to accept due to the horrible cost of moving them. This includes the ATP at Woodford which had a strip/move/rebuild price-tag of £45,000.

We are very lucky in that we have plenty of room for aircraft here, we just can’t afford to bring them in.

I have said it before, but I REALLY would like to see this 748 saved.

Well if you fund the dismantling, transport and re-assembly – we’ll take care of the rest for you.

The cost of moving these old ladies is a real problem.

So many nice toys and they’re all so nicely looked after! Can I come and live at MAM please? I don’t eat much and am reasonably well house trained.

Is the F4 still at MAM?

One couple, who live in the flightpath, said: “We have Hunter jets flying less than 250ft above our house.

“You can’t have a conversation as you can’t hear anything and the house absolutely rattles – the Hunter is an obsolete jet and has no hush kits.”

Surely with a Hunter on full chat only 250 feet above you, it’s not so much a conversation – but a very large inane grin?

As for the hush kit… “hush! I can hear the blue note!”

Yet another council looking to make a ‘quick buck’ and sod the greenbelt and our aviation heritage. It’s depressing, and against the might of the councils and wealhy developers it is hard to get our voice heard.

    Sad, very very sad.

I grew up fascinated by tomorrow’s world and later spellbound by the air shows. Raymond Baxter was everything you could describe as being a perfect english gentleman. I wish we had more like him. He will certainly be missed and thanked by so many.

    RIP Sir, and thank you.
