the preservation movement as such has no weight! This forum has more influence in preservation than the bodies outside of it.
Very True.
maybe someone needed the rivets? 😀
Fantastic stuff Rob – I could easily bankrupt myself commissioning you to do all my favourite aircraft! 😀
I think I prefer the charcoal look – it’s very ‘atmospheric’.
You’ve a rare talent, make the most of it but make sure you enjoy it.
Roy.
All great news Mark, it’s really nice to see so much happening up at Millom and I wish you guys continued success, Lord knows you’ve earned it!!
A special thanks for taking care of the Prince for us too – we’ll be up as soon as we can to wrap her up for the winter and shake a few hands – the help is really appreciated.
Roy.
The internet has become an invaluable tool. This forum especially has become an excellent way to “get the word out” when people need parts, information – or have information they need to get out quickly like “Save the Prince!”.
Whilst I applaud the intentions of the BAPC I still feel they could do more, and also need to take greater advantage of technologies such as the internet to fulfil their role. Whilst I appreciate the inevitable headaches it would bring – they really need to embrace the individual owner/collector too, there are a great many out there and they have no common voice.
But, this is a Prince thread – Long live the Prince!
How rude!!! Bill took a picture of the team and I am not on it!! 😉
Our Happy Hero :p
(you could have worn a clean shirt for chrissake! I dunno, youngsters…)
We’ve got our hands full to capacity at the moment with the Britannia so she’ll have to wait a while. Both aircraft are so important we want to do the very best we can for them.
Having said that – if the weather and the restoration gods are with us, I really hope we’ll start on the prince next summer.
Just going what Brian said…:D I thought I coudn’t see you in the list!…
So there you are, Speke are not BAPC members either! YOU SHOULD BE! 😀
See, the BAPC can’t even get their membership lists right :diablo:
I’m sure Bill won’t mind me posting these pics from saturday… I’m sure Jon has a stack more.
Caenarfon are NOT BAPC members but Speke ARE.
Errr, no we’re not!
Chuffin’ wonderful!
A truly magnificent days work Jon. It’s a real thrill knowing that the old girl is safe. If I had a bigger garden….
So Bruce gets a Christmas card too! 😀
Piccies I took of G-AMLZ on my last trip are here: http://www.jetstream-club.org/prince/
Cockpit isn’t too bad.
I’m told that the tail section was removed with an angle grinder by the museum curator so I doubt she’s in a condition to return to flight anytime soon.
😡
I think for many, it is the thrill of the hunt. Items recovered are quite incidental.
Personally, where there are human remains I feel they should be recovered and properly buried – not left rotting anonymously in a field. The act of recovery and burial is an act of respect and brings closure to families.
Just my 2c on what is clearly a very subjective topic.
As one of the overalls at Speke who can’t wait to get his hands dirty on G-AMLZ, I just wanted to publicly applaud Jon for the amazing work he’s done this week against stiff opposition and in a horribly short time-frame to secure the future of this aircraft.
Bravo Jon!
