Lol – and to think you know what it is as well! 😀

Which makes it far too easy for me and would spoil the fun!

I’ll be pretty impressed if anyone can guess what it’s from.

Well you have to start somewhere dont you……

Now can anyone guess what it is off? for the record I do know but I know how people relish these little challenges! 😀

Apologies for the mess behind but garage was lightly flooded at the weekend!

That could easily be the dash from the Ford Escort I had when I was 17 …

    😀 😀 😀

    Thanks folks. 🙂

Bex… it’s not polite to ask, especially when you’re an old fart like me and the answer is scary! However, even at 47 (as of today) there’s plenty of oomph left – we’re expecting a sprog at christmas! Although truth be told, I need a little ‘un to get into those awkward inner wing sections on the Brit 😀

lol – he kept that quiet at Speke at the weekend!! The miserable old so and so :diablo: Though would also explain why his output on Charlie Fox has dropped off of late :p

How dare you sir ! My output is consistently high and my GP will back me up on that!

and you want to borrom my rivet gun? pah ! :diablo:

I’m told that the THUM Spit also flew from Speke. That could be the south-eastern end of the old North airfield. (?)

Wonder if Flight still have copies of their own?

Apparently John (the mags owner) contacted Flight’s office and met with no interest whatsoever.

Canberra, Phantom, Viscount, Sea Hawk, Britannia. (I didn’t want to be left out :diablo: )

Big day tomorrow with a crane arriving at 9am to hopefully help us join the front of Britannia G-ANCF to her wing. Wish us luck please folks, this is going to be a real brown trousers day. 😮

    On Ebay

A chap at work told me he had some old aircraft magazines, and asked if I would take a look at them. What I hadn’t expected was that he would turn up with volumes 1 and 2 of Flight Magazine dated 1909 !!

While these are obviously quite rare, they are too early to be of interest to me and so I would welcome comments.
PS. Larger images are at http://wv838.com/john/

The owner of these has today informed me that he’ll be listing them on Ebay on Thursday May 24th. His Ebay name is “johnthepara”.

Best of luck to all who are interested in bidding.

Oh – my background – well, I have worked in the restoration industry for 17 years now. I am not an armchair pontiff – I do actually get off my ar*e and do something about our fading heritage. No amount of money can replace that!

Nobody could ever accuse you of that Bruce !! 🙂

I’m with Damien on this one. I think it’s a very reasonable request.

Thank God that in 1982 the national character was a bit more ‘can do’ than displayed on this thread. Otherwise the only thing we’d be commemorating this year would be the 25th year of Argie occupation of the Falklands… is it so hard to wish the guys putting her back in the air good luck at least?

If you don’t want to part with any cash then fine; if you have doubts about it then fine, but this constant harping can only demoralise a bunch of good people who have put heart and soul into this project.

Screw the PC of it all and screw the cold-war/Falklands argument. For me, and many others, the Vulcan is an iconic symbol of lost British engineering and a time when Britain was Great Britain.

There seem to be a growing number of us who like to fly the flag for the Britain we feel we’ve lost, the current state is certainly nothing to be proud of and seems less British by the day.

I’m sure that 558 has queered the pitch for any other aviation links with the HLF and it will do none of us any good if they fail now. I would love to see a vulcan is the skies once more, will chuck a few more quid their way to hopefully make it happen too. If they have to paint it in Team Tampon colours then so be it – she’s still a vulcan.

There are far too many armchair critics for my liking.

The CAA were not happy to see a bunch of cars & vans parked on the mound and requested that the fence be brought further down to reduce possible ‘obstacles’ caused by spotters vehicles.

There are possibly some plans afoot for a much better and more organised area at Liverpool. I might know more sometime over the next week – will post as soon as I get the news.

You should be spotting at the north airfield anyway. Nice Brit to look at there – best viewed from the handle end of a paint brush 😀

I personally find the UE thing a difficult one. In my eyes, Trespass is a bad thing and you just don’t do it. On the other hand, I’ve read some of their threads and find some of their exploits quite fascinating – it has given me an insight into things I’d never normally see.

What they record for posterity certainly has value. How they achieve this though is very wrong and in many cases simply dangerous.

Finding a volunteer force isn’t that easy – as I’m sure many are painfully aware! We’ve found that people sign up bursting with enthusiasm, turn up for at most about 6 weeks – and then vanish.

We’ve had the same core of people for about 4 years now with many drifters wandering in and then out – never to be seen again.

What IS nice, is having a few of the ex British Eagle guys come out of retirement to work on the Britannia. One chap regularly drives up from Shropshire to Liverpool to spend a day working on the aircraft. Another drove all the way up from Lyme Regis and has already booked a B&B for a return visit later this month.

The great shame for me is seeing far too few youngsters getting involved.

A good team is such a blessing. We’ve got one now and I can certainly see another one at MAM !

I really hope a team can be found for Long Marston and that the owners are happy to let them loose.

    Roy.
