you know what you’ve got to do then bigvern, indeed all of us if we want to see her fly, and that’s lobby the airshow organisers to bin the decidely boring extra 300’s and their kind and cough up the cash for foxy lady. or if there are any rich benefactors in our midst, come on guys give De Hav’s the money to pay the fuel or else the only thing you’ll see or foxy lady is an air test and then her gathering dust in De Hav’s hanger for the rest of the year or perhaps the rest of her days
I only know’s what I’m told’s guy’s, but that info is from what i hope is a pretty reliable source. Something to do with the sparrows trying to stop a second team in reds colours and flying Gnats, plus possibly something to do with the marketing side of it seeing as XR537 is likely to be operated as a Plc in conjunction with http://www.redarrows.com! As I said before I don’t know the full details.
as yet no bookings what so ever for foxy lady XN923, even with sponsership, airshow organisers aren’t willing to cough up the cash for her to appear. Even Red Bull haven’t confirmed they want her at any of their airshows in europe, reason: those avon 208’s burn 5 tons of fuel an hour and that’s alot of money to fork out jus getting her there.
all I can say to all the purists out there is, Red Bull are probably going to pull their sponsership in 2007 anyway. In which case she’ll likely go to the states and fly there in origional markings, so you won’t have her at all! Happy now Kodak and co.?
XR537/XR954
ok everyone, first off stringbag. Yep I’m affraid that does mean G-TIMM will almost certainly have to be repainted or atleast her ‘sparrows’ unifrom altered in such a way as to make it nonrepresentative of an origional red. I know not the fine detail of it all but the R.A.F. have been pretty specific on it as far as I can gather and XR537 will definitly been the only one allowed (in th U.K. atleast, abroad I have no idea), as all aircraft wishing to appear in military markings have to be run by the service in which markings she will appear. Firebird, yes that’d be pretty cool, but again R.A.F. decision as to whether they’ll allow it (on going theme isn’t it, why do the beauracrats have to spoil everyone’s fun). Manston, not a hope in hells chance of getting XR954 back in the air, i’ve seen inside her, she’s been totally gutted, the main fuselage structure is exfoliating terribly and the main spar has more cracks than labours election manifesto. Once she has served her purpose the plan is to put her on static exhibition in the musem, if there is enough left of her at the end of course.
XR537
In response to everyone’s quieries and comments about XR537 (G-NATY) the situation as I understand it is as follows:
She has now completed all her fast taxi trials, culminating in her streaming her brake ‘chute, (very elegantly). . There are still niggles with that horrible electrical system the folland deemed to install  and afew pitot static leaks the need chasing down 🙁 . The pilots ‘bang’ seat is in but unarmed, and the rear seat is armed but not in pending canopy jettison tests.
Regarding paint schemes on Gnats, the M.O.D., and particularly the R.A.F. (or rather the Red Arrows), I am told have been getting very jittery about the ideas floating around of a team of Gnats to be the next ‘Red Arrows’, and therefore decreeded that all Gnats except XR537 (she has been given from what I can understand special permission) will not be allowed to fly in Reds’ colours (I hear weeping from various owners/operators) :dev2: .
Back to G-NATY. The owners what to have her flying by august 2006 so watch this space
