about this Israeli AESA on MKI. would Russians be happy with that or would they start demanding more money since Radar is such an important part of aircraft?,
And about 2052, Read reports that 2032 can be upgraded to 2052. Should that mean 2052 might have less size & modules, and may not be able to take advantage of large MKI?
And will Meteor be availaible for export in post 2012 period on Russian birds like flanker? , i did read a report sometime ago that Meteor is offered for flanker.

Does Phazatron have any plans to bring out AESA in future for flanker class fighters?

if you guyz remember the Mirage 2000-5 Vs Su-30MK competition in early 90s. It was said that Mirage is costlier so Su-30 was selected.

But they do not even belong to same weight class, how could they be compared. Mirage weighs nearly half the flanker.

After 10 years, the approach changed. Now they are giving importance to weight, atleast they have before 2005, by only considering Mirage, F-16 & Mig-29M for the competition. But things changed Mirage bye bye, all other high-performance fighters come in. The weight thing almost looks meaningless with Gripen & Super Hornet in same competition.

Also i sometimes wonder, how IAF ends of purchasing different kinds of fighters making logistics difficult. if we have a look at decade of 80s. IAF got around 40 Mig-23MF from 1980, probably to get a BVR Capable Fighter, Then PAF got F-16A/Bs. None was match to that.
So IAF was searching for F-16 comparable. Both Mirage & Mig-29 were bought from 1985 & 1986. Dunno if they even considered Su-27.
IAF was already getting License Produced Mig-21Bis from HAL.

So IAF ended up purchasing 3 different fighters without selected any of them for license production or making a big order of 100 to 200. order for each of 3 fighters didn’t exceed 60 ignoring the attrition replacements.

Next decade, IAF will have 6 fighters, Su-30, Jaguar, Mig-29, Mirage 2000, LCA, MRCA. (ignoring Mig-27 & Possibility of MRCA being a Mig-35).
So is IAF really willing to take the logistics problem, as they have faced it in past too.

I like british approach more. Air defence, offensive support, Strike. Su-30 for air defence, LCA for CAS & Air Defence, Jaguar & probably dedicated Su-30 strike version.

will it be ideal to use the Same Su-30MKI for Air Superiority & for bomb truck roles?

wouldn’t the fixed probe affect Fighters RCS?. But it looks so ugly man:D.

I think they make sure they have enough fuel to get back to the nearest base if refuelling fails due to some reason.

I have seen MKI in pics armed with Kh-31, Kh-59, KAB-500 TV Guided. But not with Kh-29, KAB-500 Laser Guided.
Are there any pics with Kh-29 and the KAB LGB?

It has been said that IAF was not considering flankers for MMRCA because of its high operating cost and IAF cannot afford to operate a large number.

Is this true? especially when compared to SHornet, Typhoon & Rafale- all of them being comparable to flankers performance and also twin engined.

also what operating costs & maintainence difficulty will include? Is it mainly to do with Engines & things like Radar?

leaving Rafale & Mig-35, all other fighters have only one BVR, AMRAAM. So what is latest AMRAAM version is offered for export and what kind of downgrading would be done before exporting it?

India tends to integrate Russian missiles with western fighters and vice versa. will US Allow such things with AMRAAM?

And about the TOT, will US be willing give TOT for things like Radar/Engine n other avionics?

When will the new version R-73s come out and will IAF look out for Python-5s for Su-30MKI because newer missiles like ASRAAM & Python-5 were built to be better than original R-73. I am expecting MKI is armed with the original
    R-73.
and what about Long Range AAMs to exploit the real capability Su-30MKI & its Radar.

but i am talking about French airforce, not the exports. India will be first nation interested to buy any second-hand mirages, already looking for 40 second hand mirages. India has already lost a golden opportunity by not license producing Mirage for the last 20 years.

Don’t you guyz think Mirage 2K has still life left in it and shouldn’t it be upgraded to continue service besides rafale?

In which year the last Mirage Squadron willl be retired?

they are saying that RFP might not be sent all contendors because some aircraft are not what IAF is looking for.
That means Gripen could be out, BTW will Sweden induct Gripen NG in future?

Also, there are blind zones behind radars which guard certain sectors. Those radars are temporarily jammed during insertion of UAVs into those blind zones and then at the time of their retrieval.

The radar operators would be alerted by that and take necessary ECCM measures rite? or atleast have more capable radar in those areas?

Almost every weapon US Donates to pakistan is intended against use of terrorists.
How a missile like AIM-120 C-5 can be used against terrorists?
Is Taliban operating Hijacked Plasma Stealth PAK-FA Fighter?:D

/hopefully Sagarika will have most of them but the most important thing i’m worried is od backward compatibility!

You mean Sagarika being capatible with present launching systems?

why don’t we follow US Style
Develop a Common launching System capable of launching Klub, Brahmos & any possible Cruise Missiles developed in future.

the local SSN is a ongoing project. the Akulas are meant to keep Rus happy coz they are extending lot of help from their vast SSN/SSGN knowledge…in violation of quite a few toilet-paper treaties signed between the “powers that be” 😀

theres a place called Sosnovy Bor near St.petersberg where supposedly a new training school is established to train the IN Akula crew members.

but is the construction of Akulas Completed? if completed are they have trials in russia?
Are they fitted with Klub or brahmos or will they be fitted in future.

How about navy using Akula as platform for Sagarika SLCM/BM tests, Will Russians allow for that?

And a werid question , what will happen if Akulas are lost in sea due to some accident. as this is a lease agreement for 10 yrs.

with that configuration it should be called destroyer, 16 brahmos and 533mm Torpedo Tubes could make the Ship heavy.

Hi I am Ajay, new to this Forum.

I want to ask some questions.

Some Sources indicate that India leased & deployed Tu-126 Moss AWACS based on Tu-95 bear in 1971 war against Pakistan.
    http://www.ausairpower.net/Profile-Tupolev-Bear.html

It achieved little success as an airliner but did provide an airframe design for the Tu-126 Moss Airborne Early Warning system. The Moss attained IOC in 1970, with a single aircraft deployed to India in 1971 in support of Indian air operations against Pakistan in the war over Bangladesh. The Flat Jack AEW radar of the Moss has been credited with very poor overland lookdown performance and this limitation in capability may well be the reason for the Russians having only ever deployed about a dozen of this type. It is now being replaced with the new Il-76 Mainstay system.

If its true, why none of Indian Sources mention this fact.

And IAF also fields some 2 Gulf Stream SR-III Aircrft for ELINT purposes.
Does anybody have Specs of Sensors about this System?

    Another question

IAF used to deployed Mig-23 as their EW Aircraft?
Since Mig-23 is on the verge of retirement.
which Aircraft will take over the job??
Does IAF intends to have Powerful dedicated Jammer Platforms, in the likes of EA-6B or EF-18??

All Present Fighters including Mig-21, Mirage 2000, Su-30 have Self Defence Jammers.
