The T-33 also seems to be getting dismantled, with the back end off!
Rob
Are they not just removing the godawful suspension mountings?
The whole project has taken 5 years including fundraising and the development of the website:

I don’t see how the website links with the physical building. It only deals with WW2, particularly the Eighth AF.
Any updates on the AAM building ?
It will be interesting to see what (if anything) is different inside. Aircraft aside.
Expect to be ‘wowed’ by an audio/visual extravaganza…
Which is fair enough but why would they favour the Harvard and Stearman over the F100? Hardly ‘American air power’ are they?
T-33 needs a suitable ceiling to be dangled from…
Who the hell decided the T33 is not relevant to the AAM? Its like telling an ex RAF guy that a Gnat or Jet Provost have no relevance. They need an F117, it would look amazing for the general public, and it operated from the UK. It would fit with the U2 and SR71.
It still has the godawful suspension attachments attached so maybe they’ll dangle it elsewhere. Maybe they’ll get a fibreglass F117 from somewhere…
Hopefully
Did the blackbird go back in as I can’t see it in the pictures?
Thanks for the photos.

Would be funny if they’d forgotten it..!
Skin and clothing on the top of the U2.. well, anything’s possible in there! At least they had plenty of dust to sample…
I knew I hadn’t imagined the floor painting!

As for what’s happening in there between now and Easter, it looks like the IWM are going all ‘interactive’ on us. Hopefully not a la IWM North…
The cost of this revamp must be eye watering!
£980,000 from the HLF, plus an extra £160,000 from the Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund…
I read somewhere that they were painting the floor!!
Why should it suddenly become “horribly dated” after 18 years? It certainly won’t to my eye, but aesthetics is a subjective matter, as ever.
Because architectural statements date badly. Just look at the Southbank Centre. It probably looked great in 1951, whereas now…
As I have stated before, I think it was poorly thought through from day one, why not another superhangar which makes for easier moves and new additions. Cheaper and more practical by far.
And as I’ve said before, what looked sleek and cutting edge in 1997 will soon become horribly dated. All that concrete.. urgh!
Is it me or does it look more cluttered than it was before? They should have just bulldozed it and started again!
