Great photo!
I didn’t think the B-25 was going back in? I’m surprised the Harvard and PT-17 are going back too. Well, if that’s the order then it means that everything above the B-29 on the list will be dangling from the rafters… though maybe not the U-2..???
She has unique and interesting nose art. The B25 would look great with invasion stripes and nose art. Future generations need to be inspired and B17s with nude women on them certainly got my interest then I started building airfix, going to airshows etc
I was joking
‘Whoever came up with this ridiculous idea of painting RAFM aircraft in only the schemes that they wore?’
I guess whoever thought that the RAFM should be a museum and not a theme park ?
Get rid of S-Sugar as well, she’d look so much better as Gibson’s Admiral Prune or AJ-G…
If it looks as good as the B24 it will be great. Whoever came up with this ridiculous idea of painting RAFM aircraft in only the schemes that they wore? The tempest is ok as its colourful, but the B25 says nothing
I have decided that I would rather see what the original aircraft looked like instead of some populist nonsense to please the masses. What other type of museums would display artefacts that were not portraying their real history? Take the AAM as a prime example, you had ‘Bush’s Avenger’ hovering over Hawg Wild – how do you explain to the masses of people that one of these is a genuine scheme, the other isn’t, and the rationale behind it? How many people passed through the AAM thinking that they had seen the real Bush Avenger? (yes, I know he kept getting shot down!) For many years I was disappointed by the non-USAAF schemes on the RAFM’s B-24 and P-47, but now I accept them as being true to the aircraft concerned.
I can only see two, where’s the other one…?
Isn’t the hi viz ‘hi viz’ enough!!
It did however seem to be designed with two huge flaws, concrete dust raining down from the ceiling and no doors.
The elevated entrance was supposed to create the ‘wow factor’ by being level with the B-52. I’m sure the B-52 would look better facing the glass but there wouldn’t be enough clearance for the tail.
The simple fact is it has kept those exhibits pristine for nearly 20 years thus freeing up room so that other aircraft can go in the main hangars.
I’m not sure how ‘pristine’ some of them are. Lots of bits got nicked, the B-29 glazing got scratched and at one point there were footprints on top of the Huey!!
Does anyone have any idea what the “re modelling” of the AAM will actually be like when it’s finished ??
Despite my best efforts with Google I can’t find any information at all.
David
I don’t think it will look drastically different, but they want to concentrate on personal stories and the last 2 decades of the UK/US relationship, whatever that means.
Bit of info here

Those AAM photos are brilliant. Just shows what a daft building it is!
I can’t say that the colour scheme does much for me either.
Same here, but I’m coming round to the idea of preferring to see aircraft in their original finishes (or at least colour schemes that they once wore). I know a lot has been said on here about painting Buchons as 109s and all that, but it’s the same with ‘genuine’ aircraft too. How many people would have looked at the ‘Bush’ Avenger, for example, and thought that it was the real deal? Mixing the two together gets pretty confusing.
Surely they can’t get all of the AAM aircraft in the same building ?
There’s always the ceiling… don’t forget the ceiling…
I wish they’d kept the B24 nose as well.
I never noticed the missing Bombaimers glazing on the B24?
I believe the nose was heavily modified for ‘ice research’, though looking at some photos of her during restoration the area had not yet been faired over.
At risk of sounding like the roundel police, is that really a period typeface for the Hurricane’s serial? I don’t recall seeing another one like it.

Looks a bit ‘Arial’…!
