I hope the B25 gets new colours, its an important type. The Avenger was obviously due to Mr Bush opening the place… I dont think any other museum has one in American colours this side of the Atlantic?
Bush didn’t open the AAM, the Avenger was painted as his aircraft for publicity purposes. The OFMC Avenger was also painted as Bush’s at an earlier date… confusing.
According to Freeman, the B25 scheme was, I quote, ‘In order to give recognition to all US flying services of the Second World War…’. It would have looked better if the identically painted Avenger wasn’t dangling next to it though!!
The early AAM exhibits were a bit dubious if they were representing US air power.. the Stearman?? that blue glider??? Harvard???
Doesn’t the AAM represent ‘American air power in Britain’? I can’t be bothered to rummage around for Freeman’s book! So aircraft like the B17, B24, P47, P51 etc make perfect sense, as does the B52. But the Avenger? naval coloured B25?
The main problem with the B52 is that the AAM was designed around it, with its dimensions dictating the building’s size and everything else stuck around it like a complete dog’s dinner.
I’ve always thought the Avenger looked daft hanging in its landing configuration… needs a Bush mannequin in the cockpit haha. I would like to see it on the floor being bombed up, like this

Clucking bell!
The Blenheim looks great, a real relic of the early war days. As for the AAM, that looks anything but great….
Some rare behind the scenes shots from Binbrook. These are like hens’ teeth….
I’ve just come across these. Not sure if they are stills from unused scenes or promo shots??

In the Film the co-pilot shoots a ‘109’ down which slices another B17 (poss Mother and Country) in half. Did this happen or is it Hollywood?
Thanks,
sam
During the Battle of Britain Ray Holmes sliced a Do17 in half with his Hurricane. Needless to say he had to bale out shortly afterwards!!

But how was one of the most important places in the country (world?) allowed to be destroyed and turned in to little more than a business park is beyond me. :’-(
Nothing in this country is sacred vs Surrey land prices

It’s the jewell in Hendons crown IMHO and looks very emotive in the entrance the to Bomber Command hall.
I agree, though it would be even better if one could see it through the gloom and the tail wheel was on the ground! Incidentally, I was reading the other day about how the only way bouncing bombs could be loaded was by jacking up the tail.
