Tomahawks remain an option for the ADF in the long range strike role in the years following the decomissioning of the F111 fleet.
The money went elsewhere in the initial plan, but that does not mean there won’t be money later.

They are excellent drawing, I had used them as a help when I was building my 1:72 derivative of the Otago.
There are at least two people I knowe of that are building 1:72 RNZN OPVs, Otago and Wellington. There are 1:72 plans available, as is the hull and much of the superstructure and fittings, but for the purposes of this exercise the link by Tiddles is fine for most of what people on this board need.

TVC = Thrust Vectoring Control?

IIRC,there was a newspaper report quoting the Admiral or somebody..I dont think there were any releases from the MoD.
btw Mods..why are there only 2 pages in this forum..where the H are the old threads?Have they been deleted or somethin?
It was in that thread that the ‘everything will be alright, trust the nice Indian admiral’ threads were posted.
It’s a shame they are gone.

what tirade ?? The F-18 is junk, if IAC had CATS rafale would be my first choice but thats not going to happen. MRCA is totally different from naval contract for carriers, why are people mixing the two is beyond me.
Yes, the F/A-18 is junk, that’s why lots of different countries that can actually afford to pay full price for it actually chose it over competing aircraft.
In fact it’s so much junk that the latest version is one of only two aircraft operational with AESA radar, is fully carrier quallified and proven in action.
Keep on thinking that it’s junk mate, and the rest of us will continue on with a rational discussion.

The mig29k is meant for both vik and IAC. No matter what, F-18(garbage) or rafale cannot take off without cats. So mig29k is the only choice other than N-LCAfor now.
Ah, I see Broncho’s back, and still slagging off Western aircraft.
How is the anti-Western crusade going these days mate?
Still not letting facts get in the way of a good tirade I see,

Hi Unicorn , Do you pls. have any info.& or specs. on the unselected MRV model in your thumbnail or is it a modellers conceptual idea. I followed the MRV selection up to a point, but found it hard to get info on some of the original cantidates at the time.
Yours in fear & loathing
Tiddles
The model is of HDW’s MRV 7500. It was a downsizing of HDW’s original MRV10000 which was a candidate in several competitons involving NATO members.
A surf across to Google (for MRV 7500) will turn up stuff, including a thread here on Key.
Otherwise the HDW site may have something.
Cheers

Didn’t a few of us cop quite a bollocking on this very forum from certain posters for even having the temerity to suggest that the ship would be lucky to enter service by 2010 at the absolute earliest, probably later? 😮
I seem to recall certain posters pointing out everything was fine and we should listen to the nice media releases from the nice Indian Ministry of Defence.
Maybe some of these posters might now choose to learn to read more than the latest press release.

In the interests of keeping the thread going, here are two model shots.
One is of Canterbury as she will be, the other as she could have been (if another design had been chosen).

China would be greatly offended and express its condemnation of Japan for not considering the feelings of 1 billion Chinese. Then the next day it will issue condemnation of the US for criticising China’s military buildup, which it terms as its ‘internal affairs’. Then the day after, China will remind others that it has pledged not to intefere in the internal affairs of other nations. 😀
Something along these lines.
Jesus I laughed at that, you sure you don’t work for the PRC’s foreign ministry?

I realise that the USN fleet must consume a lot of fuel, but in the grand scheme of US usage, is it anything compared to domestic usage (vehicle fuel, power gen, domestic heating, etc.)?
Is the US self-sufficient in Uranium? Could just be replacing one dependancy for another – like the debate here about nuclear power stations. Granted, our supplier is probably a lot more realiable than the middle east!!!!
The US has some supplies however they could buy all the uranium they will ever need from one of their closest and most trusted allies, Australia.
Australia sits upon some 40% of the world’s known reserves (and a lot of the country has never been seriously surveyed),

And what exactly was he smoking when he said this…
MOSCOW. (Nikita Petrov for RIA Novosti) – The Russian Navy will become the world’s second largest in 20 years’ time, said its commander-in-chief, Admiral Vladimir Masorin, speaking ahead of Navy Day.
That’s simply not going to happen. Even if the Russian economy continues to do well on the back of high energy prices, they still won’t be in a position to achieve this.

Something I uncovered recently in the AIR 9000 that has been very hush hush; Down here we are to get a new “Aviation Training Vessel”. This vessel is to be a new autonomous vessel shared by Army and Navy for training of operartions on all RAN vessels. I’ve heard nothing on size or proposals but this BPC-140 looks like it would be ideal should it be offered. Though there is one other local offer I’d really like to see up and running.
Ja, its not terribly hush hush, it was the subject of some debate on Australian defence forums back in January.
The sort of vessel they are looking at is more in the realm of the US Navy’s IX-514 avation training vessel, which was the example vessel used in the presentations made to industry.
I know your all hot to trot for the Austal Multi Role Corvette, but that is a lot of ship for what is basically a training platform that won’t wander too far from Jervis Bay.
A slower version with two rather than four engines was suggested, however the two drivers are on one hand low initial acquisition cost / low through life costs and on the other minimal personnel costs.

No info, only these pics
