Interestingly, we hear that the wife of one of the present captains of G-APSA was born at Changhi (in the military hospital).

At http://www.thedc6.com you can see for yourself how accurate the current “British Eagle” livery is. The original was a modified Cunard Eagle scheme with the airline title being the only significant change.

Unqualified pilots and wake turbulence according to the NTSB.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/world/mexico/stories/111508dnintcrashfolo.1b272a695.html

Odd article, this: the headline quotes the NTSB and the text quotes the Mexican Government. Isn’t it also highly unusual to release CVR information? Seems to fall back on the old standby of blaming the pilots, too. Sounds like the NTSB (or whoever) have excelled themselves.

Apparently not :(. Apparently BAA, having issued slots for this flight last week, have withdrawn them, citing concerns that the DC-6 might disrupt normal operations. Odd, given that it used to operate into there commercially until recently.

The DC-7 was not a great machine in the end, and the -C least of all. Unfortunately the engines were not fantastically reliable and with 100LL cannot be run at design power. I’m told a DC-6A or B actually has a better useful load as a result.

Now if you went for a DC-6 in VIP config I guess your talking about $250000 to buy it. Then around $30M for a full refurb, $10000 per hour to run it, a minimum of $50000 per year to insure, about $200000 to maintain and then there’s the crew… Ouch!

You’d probably need a personal invitation from the pilot for that one, dude!

…someone had once knocked a toolbox through it (was hit by a prop during engine run).

G-SIXC, Malmo. Wasn’t you, was it?

That aircraft was repaired in accordance with a repair scheme provided by the manufacturer. Back in the 1960s someone cut an even bigger hole on the other side and stuck a cargo door in it. Just like on A300s, B757s, ATPs…

Glad we all stayed friends in the end. 😉

Lovely paint-job, but please tell me, that its not the same aircraft, they used for
spraying chemicals on oil-polluted seas. That AC was rotten to the core and ready for the scrap yard.

Those chemicals and aircraft structure just don’t go well together.

    Wow, Mondariz, that’s pretty strong!

Do you have any evidence to suggest there is anything wrong with this aircraft? I imagine an airplane maintained in accordance with an EASA Transport (Passenger) Certificate of Airworthiness must have to meet some kind of minimum maintenance standard. If the UK aviation authorities shared your view I guess they’d probably have grounded her by now. They haven’t so I guess they don’t. The pilots probably have wives and sweethearts so I don’t suppose they’d play around with a suspect aircraft either. And I’m certain that the engineers themselves actually travel on this aircraft. That’d be a foolish thing to do if they thought it was “ready for the scrap yard”.

If I cast aspersions about an airline operated aircraft I’d want to be really sure about my facts. Saying that kind of stuff could really hurt them.

I understand that the chemicals used for pollution spraying were basically a strong detergent. But since G-APSA never actually carried anything stronger than tap water its a bit like expecting the rain to rot your windows.

Congratulations to the hard working team of engineers who look after G-APSA and all her stablemates. It’s a tough job that deserves some recognition.

Well done guys. I love the new paint job.

Just received the latest on the Jersey International Air Display in the running order is a Douglac DC6 does any one know any information on the aircraft?.
Is it the Red Bull Aircraft or Air Atlantique?.

That’ll be Air Atlantique’s DC-6A, G-APSA. Fresh from a stunning repaint, we hear.

Wasps, Double or Major; Mr Wright or corncob: putting the academic debate aside, amen for a bunch like Classic Flight who put their money where our mouth is. I’ll certainly be off to Blenheim to see G-APSA on her first public outing.

Has anyone here put their name down for that trip to Hamburg? Apparently pax aboard the DC-3 will be flying alongside a formation practice involving G-APSA, a DC-2 and two other DC-3s! Unmissable and only 300 quid. Now where’s that piggy bank…

Thanks for clarifying the situation Tom. I was at Kemble today and asked your Devon crew giving joy flights about this and they were shocked, as they knew nothing about this! 😮

Not sure where you’re going with this one, Albert.
