“How develish of you to wish that!!”
These are predictions not wishes!
1) Taiwan officially declares independence
2) Taiwan is offered Aegis and their first subs are put into production
3) Cuba becomes democratic after the old man dies and a brief revolution.
4) USA donates billions of dollars and military equipment to Cuba
5) Japan sinks a Chinese sub in Japanese waters
6) US finds a good use for the F-14. The QF-14
7) Russia will crash a fighter at an air show
“Navy also aims to continue the indigenous construction project of Agosta 90 B submarines, he said.”
I think they mean “license produced” and not indigenous. I think that is a slap to the face to the French who actually created the Sub!
“India, the region’s largest naval power (and the only country apart from the US and UK to operate aircraft carriers).”
Um, What happened to the French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian, Thai, carriers? Even Russia has a carrier that they take out once every 5 years or so.
“Indian subs of British-Russian manufacture sail keel to keel with Israel subs made in Germany,”
Um, What british built subs? The Type-209s are German built. Does India have a sub I am not aware of?
Too be a defense journalist.
I didn’t think the IL-78 were that old yet.
One Bug
Two sidewinders
Ten AMRAAMs
equals one cool pic!

I also vote for Japan building nukes, making more offensive weapons, and exporting their weapons systems to countries. It is a real shame they don’t export their equipment to other countries because they produce some really nice kit. On a seperate note; I don’t know why there is so much japan bashing. No one ever brings up the terrible things the Germans did in both world wars but I bet no one here would complain as much if Germany wanted to start producing more offense weapons.
Two squadrons of A-29s purchased from Brazil
Two squadrons of AT-29s built from kits purchased from Brazil
All extra money put into air defense.
They use a couple of PC-9s in a patrol role now. It would make sense to purchase more of those birds or the newer PC-9M or the cool looking PC-21 for that role.
How many different SAM systems does Greece operate?
ASRAD
Crotale NG
OSA-AKM
Tor-M1
Improved Hawk
Patriot PAC 3 (based near Athens)
S-300PMU-1 (based on Crete)
Am I missing any?
Anyone know how many Hawk batteries are in Greek service? I believe all the other missile systems (ASRAD, Crotale NG, OSA-AKM, & Tor-M1) are used to protect mobile army units. Is this correct? Any guess to why there are so many different kinds of these missiles systems in Greek service? Why purchase ASRAD when you have Crotale NG and why purchase Crotale NG when you have Tor-M1? Wouldn’t it have been cheaper to put all that money that was put into buying all the missiles, launchers, training, logistics, etc for ASRAD and Crotale NG and just purchase more Tor-M1 systems since Greece already has that system in service? Greece really likes to operate many different systems that have close to the same capabilities. Logistics must be a huge headache for them. That was a lot of out loud Thinking. Sorry for the on going ramble

No need to purchase another new fighter right now or any time soon. Greece would be better off upgrading their fleet of Mirage 2000s to the Mirage 2000-5mkII standard and to purchase more Mirage 2000-5mkIIs. They should also upgrade their older falcons to the block 50 standard and purchase more F-16 block 52 plus fighters.
This would stream line their Air Force, keep costs down, make logistics simple, and keep their Air Force formable till 2010-2015 when new fighters can be purchased.
The new upgraded force would resemble this:
*150 F-16C Block 50 / Block 52 plus
*50 F-16D Block 50 / Block 52 plus
*150 Mirage 2000-5MKII
*50 Mirage 2000-5MKII Trainer

I got a quick question.
How many of these were new builds and how many were bought from surplus Ukraine and Russian stocks?
I think the answer is that two were bought from used from Ukraine and two were bought brand new from Russia but I could be mistaken.

“SM-3s intercept ballistic missiles when they reach their highest point outside of the atmosphere and PAC-3 missiles are used to destroy missiles that evade SM-3 attacks. (AFP)”
I wonder what ships will get the SM-3 in Japan. The Kongo class or new build classes?
