Something else to give the museum whinges and moaners to complain about. The DH9A is now on a pole.
Our Aircraft Team of Volunteers have been busy bees today, cleaning our DH9a in Hangar 1, where it will be centrepiece of the Attack area of our ‘RAF: The First 100 Years’ exhibition

You can’t think logically like that. The whingers, moaners and museum complainers on here would then have nothing to whinge, moan and complain about.

Those fellas in black & white ran to put their lives at risk and some may not have returned
And judging by the ‘fella’ leaning in the door way, it looks like a publicity shot staged for the press.

And from the Museum web site –
The Spitfire 10K and a NEW Family Spitfire Run will take-off from our fantastic London site on
Saturday 1 September 2018!Join us for this very special event, in a very special year and help raise funds for the RAF100 Appeal!
This year we are offering 800 runners the opportunity to run a 10K on our historic airfield site. 2018 is a big year for the Royal Air Force and for the Museum. We have three new exhibitions and a beautiful landscaped site, evoking the London Aerodrome from 100 year ago. You will start under the Sunderland and run through the site and then continue around the streets of Colindale, before coming back on site to finish on our βtaxiwayβ.
At the end of the race you will be awarded with an exclusive Spitfire 10K medal, which will be extra special for 2018 as this year will be the centenary of the Royal Air Force.
T-shirts can be ordered when you purchase your Spitfire 10K entry and will be available for collection on the day. The deadline to pre-order your t-shirt is Sunday 12 August 2018.
The 2018 design will be released in the next few months so watch this space.
Entry to the Museum is free of charge and runners, spectators and supporters are encouraged to explore the site on race day.
For 2018 we will also be holding a NEW Spitfire Family Run. This gentle run will take place around our transformed site. Each registered runner will receive a special medal upon completion. The race is suitable for all ages, but children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that only paying participants will be awarded a medal.

What better way to start the day than walking through the visitors center to be greeted by a Mk.XIV Spitfire diving down from the west for a five minute display over the airfield. What was even better was that after landing and parking up by the gate by the tower G-SPIT fired up again and we had another five minutes of a Rolls-Royce Griffon growling over the airfield. When the fun and games ended the Spit was parked in 3 hangar. At 2 hangar, there was some war bird movements but it was just ARCo shuffling around some of their fleet. On entering hangar 5, I had a flash back to the summer and a big white tent on the hangar base. I thought the museum was having another art installation with black plastic screening around the nose of the Victor. It’s to protect the public from the paint stripping that’s about to start. In AirSpace the Typhoon was being set up for a film shoot that was taking place later in the day. Early afternoon and amongst the GA visitors was a very nice looking Waco dating from 1932 and later in the afternoon, Beaver/G-EVMK went up for what I believe was it’s second flight. I missed the first. In the order taken.

The Museum’s new visitor site transport was being put through its paces. Have to be careful not to get run over by the site transport, again, as it’s all electric and very silent. You can’t hear it coming. Along with a couple of GA visitors there were two helicopters that called in for fuel. The white Cabri G2 was on pipe line duty and the Squirrel HT1 will probably be on its last visit as the Cobham contract come to an end this year. In the order taken

Paul
My first job on leaving school was to train as an Architectural Technician and 40 odd years later I still have an interest in buildings, which is why they feature a lot, and I probably look at them with a different mind set to non architecturally trained members of the public.
I actually have a virtual bimble around the area I’m interested in on Google maps in 3D before I set out. Unfortunately images used on Google maps appear about about 5 years out of date as I come across a building on Google that looks interesting and when I get to the location, it’s demolished and something new is in its place.
Off into the City tomorrow and I’ve seen some interesting buildings and locations around London Liverpool Street Station on my virtual walkabout. Just hope they are still there. π

Thursday 25th January
A quiet day at Duxford. ‘Blade 1’ had taken part in a corporate event in AirSpace and flew off around mid-day. Many thanks to Joe for hangar access to EP122 and outside amongst the GA arrivals and departures, the Boultbee two-seat Spitfire was taking advantage of the blue sky and sunshine with crew training. The BBMF Chipmunk was out on a compass swing and TFC had their T.20 Sea Fury on the jet pan for another engine run. In the order taken.

My take on the days entertainment. In the order taken and with wall to wall cloud, it was a very flat light for decent photographic conditions.
